Slight vibration

I've noticed ever since I bought my car that every so often when the a/c is on I feel a slight vibration through the seat. I notice it only at standstills. I think it is happening when the compressor kicks in and the fan starts turning or just when the fan starts turning. I also notice the rpm's slightly blip. I hope this is normal??

I haven't noticed a vibration, but the throttle blip is totally normal. Your motor suddenly has to run the ac as well, which takes more work. So it's gonna blip for a second, like when you switch to a higher gear on a bike, your pedaling slows down for a second.

You need a new engine and transmission.

On a serious note, how many miles are on the car? Could it be you just need some routine maintenance like oil change, air filter change, spark plugs & wires, trans fluid, diff fluid, etc...? Sometimes we overlook the obvious stuff.

20k and it definitely is connected to the fan/ac compressor clicking on. I opened the door in a closed area and when I heard the fan kick in I felt the vibration. Could it be the engine or fan mounts? The car has been always babied. Never driven hard. Maybe my idle rpm's are too low? As stated previously one of you notices a blip in rpm's and I don't think the engine can blip without you feeling any vibration.

I think that's the problem. You never drove it hard. Gotta drive it hard every single day, it is made for that exactly purpose.

Once you do that, you'll have the excuse for the vibration

No one has this vibration? Or no one is taking me seriously.

Huck 09-12-2012 09:24 AM

I've never noticed the vibration when I was stock, I definitely wouldn't be able to feel it now with my headers and exhaust.

Never noticed anything here.

Did you have the AC off for a long time then put it back on or is it something that you just started noticing.

On my truck (toyota 4 banger w. 243k miles), on hot days in standstill traffic I can hear the compressor start sounding like a valve ticking noise. Now that I don't drive it every day I can't hear it anymore. Could be you've become very sensitized to the sound and it grates on you now that you noticed it.

I don't have this problem op. I have a nismo model though so idk if its a problem with AT only or if its just your car. Have the dealer check it out if you don't know for sure, it could be normal for the car to do that.

370Z Purist 09-12-2012 04:04 PM

Turning on the AC will also make the stock knob and shifter vibrate more. You're only really noticing it now because you cared to notice it, a la B&W Evader's logic.

My car is an AT and I always have the A/C on. I have always noticed it. At stand still the rpm's blip and I feel a vibration for a two seconds and then all is normal. I know this related to the a/c and fan. Never considered asking about it until now; however, now I want to go FI and if I come to the dealer with a vibration he will blame it on the FI. Figured I'd look into it now before the mod. My idle rpm is about 600-650. Is this too low?

thats where mine is at(from what i can read on the gauge i dont have an ECU plug that will tell me for sure), but again i have a manual transmission

tbh i dont think anything is wrong with the car, its like 370Z Purist said, you're only noticing it because you are choosing to notice it
