Default 1st > 2nd grind, Redline MT-85 failed?

I have mentioned this before. My car had never shifted smooth from 1st to 2nd since I bought it new with 20 miles. I changed the transmission fluid at about 13K miles with Amsoil GL-4 fluid. The Amsoil worked great, it got rid of the notchiness 90% of the time. The only issue I had was that the problem came back within 3000-4000 miles. Since the oil is expensive, I decided to try my luck with Redline oil MT-85. When I initially put it in, I would get smooth shifts 80% of the time. Yet within 200 miles, the smoothness was completely gone. Now I get a notch every 3 or 4 shifts, absolutely annoying. So if you are ever in the market for transmission, I highly recommend staying away from the redline. You might end up making a $80 mistake like I did.

Might not be the oil necessarily.

Redline for me is better than stock. But our cars have a small degree of notchiness no matter what you do.

Unfortunately, that doesn't take into account that you might just have a failing box, you'd have to try the AMSOil again to confirm

How could you just go right after an Oil the a lot of people including myself have been using for thousands of miles with no issues? I hope you figure out what is going on but it seems like you have a tranny issue.

I am sure my tranny suck and could use a new one. At the same time, I also had amsoil that took care of the notch, be it for 3000 miles only, but it was still 2800 miles longer than the mt85

If your oil is making your tranny work properly only for a limited time there is either a problem with your tranny or you are putting in the wrong oil. I have had RedLine tranny manual gear oil and diff fluid in the rear for over 10k miles and I cant be any happier.

Tell that to Nissen, maybe you can get them to replace my tranny quicker.

Fact remains tranny starts getting notchy after 200 miles with redline mt85 and 3000 with amsoil. Great for you for not having the issue, I am sick of changing the tranny oil myself

Try to adjust the clutch a little stiffer (less freeplay) and see if that changes it? Just a thought.

If you have an 09, Nissan may replace your transmission if you tell them about the problems. There have been revisions to the trans I think.

I will take them in during the winter, they will probably tell me it is normal to clunk. That's the Nissan way, never fix a problem

MT-85 for 6-7k w/ no grinding and (relatively) smooth shifting.
