Oil consumption ?

Hey is there a way of checking your vin to see if your model Z is one of the ones that is prone to oil consumption ? (I have only had 2 oil changes its a weekend car)

Even if it is one of the one's prone to such, you don't KNOW if it is indeed one that has the issue. Therefor, the test would be the same as if it were NOT in that bracket--Drive the car, measure oil consumption on your own, if you find it to be a problem, contact your local Nissan dealership or one recommended as being willing and capable to correct said issue.

i think it was any z made prior to june of 2010, but these vhr motors are very well known if you run em hard and to redline area that some oil will burn off. Its normal on high performance motors

It's a little different than that with some VQ motors, which have been known to eat 1 quart or more worth of oil every 1,000 miles.

My 2006 350z needed to have it's engine replaced due to excess oil consumption, along with many others.

It's one thing to burn a quart between oil changes. It's another to have a dry engine after 3,500 miles because of excess oil burnoff.

OP, you have to keep track of the oil consumption yourself. Let the engine sit overnight and take a reading. Check again after 500 or 1,000 miles. If the readings are very similar, you're good to go. If you see the reading drop an inch or more (approx), you may want to have an oil consumption test conducted by the dealer.

Yeah I agree with what you are saying. My dad has his 350z and burns a quart quite often. Has 179000 on odometer and no problems yet. I had a little burn off when I got my cooler installed and beat on that gas pedal for 200 miles of canyon carving. It went down quite a bit but it is to be expected. I check my oil once a week since it's a dd, maybe twice along with powersteering fluid and coolant etc. Depends on how old the oil is too.

Yep, my LS1 would burn about 1 quart every 4K miles. It had 150K miles on it going strong when I sold it, and that behavior was present just the same at 72K miles when I bought it. Never increased, and never had any performance issues, etc. except that it DID clog a cat.
