wish me luck ,,, possible blown 7 AT

since a few day the car was making a weid noise and getting louder now Im discovering that the transmission is leaking between the engine/transmission.

I didnt had time to call the dealership before they close so im gonna try my luck tomorrow morning since they are open :)
Hopping they will be able to take care of the Z and give me courtesy car !
It will have 55 000kms tomorrow and the warranty end at 60k ! :eekdance:

V8Killer 09-09-2011 07:09 PM

Whoa man I hope it works out for you and don't try to give you the run around since your so close to being out of warranty. Good luck

superchargedg 09-10-2011 06:15 PM

Good luck man

Xan 09-10-2011 06:50 PM

I'm pretty sure you have a 5 year/100,000 km powertrain warranty in Canada....

370Z JT 09-10-2011 07:40 PM

Are you NA or FI?

MattP725 09-10-2011 08:19 PM

Even if not I am PRETTY sure that once a problem is occuring (and confirmed) they have to follow through with a full solution... meaning if they say it just needs a seal and that doesn't fit it, the trans could still be replaced at say 62k under warranty.

christian370z 09-11-2011 12:42 AM

I should hope it is covered under warranty, it sounds like fluid leaked out causing low fluid levels which might have hurt the transmission. You might get lucky and just need a seal replaced, the noise going away after filling the trans back up with the correct amount of fluid.

Good luck!

Megan370z 09-11-2011 06:43 AM

I called the dealership yesterday, I was told the transmission guy are In during the week days and would be better to drop off the car anytime during the week .

Since the nearest dealership is at 1:20 hours away and dealing with all of that , I need a day off ! or atleast an half day.

I will try to get the car towed under warranty, because I disovered last night that could be possible ( from the warraty information booklet )

The last time I started the car and went under it to look where it was really leaking, *1 drop every 2sec*
There was a lot of noise comming from the Torque convector
The transmission hold 9.2 Liters. Im sure it miss half of that !!!

Damage to the transmission is very probable
so I will try to push for a Transmission replacement .

Oh I know I was just :stirthepot:

Ridgerunner 09-11-2011 04:34 PM

Make sure it is noted on your record if you just have a bad tail shaft seal so later on if your transmission gives out after your warranty expires, Nissan pays for it.

Jamaica 09-11-2011 04:40 PM

If mine was covered under warranty yours will be.

On a more serious note, that does suck Megan370. Hopefully everything gets taken care of.

Megan370z 09-11-2011 05:51 PM

some Update.

I went to remove all of my intake system mod today just in case if someone there doesnt like to see a fully modded car.

Custom CAI w/ oversize MAF
Custom Throttle body
my own 350z HR Intake manifold (M370 Motordyne)
Custom Oil catch can

the dealership is supposed to be mod friendly as someone here got his engine done under warranty few weeks/months ago.

Since I didnt really know what to do, if I was to drive the car with a topped up tranny fluid or just use the towing option from the Warranty ( I learned that last night ) up to 250kms at the nearest dealership ...
my nearest dealership is 150km and the second one where I want it to be is at 162kms !

so anyway I topped up 2 L of tranny fluid and reflashed the car with the stock ROM (Uprev)
the noise hasnt changed a bit ! in every gear position (P , N , D)
I had my ear under the engine oil pan , I was hearing a lot of knocking like if the crankshaft was about to give up ... and the Torque Convector also make knock/clacking/tapping noise ...
while I was topping up the tranny fluid, I saw the inside of the hose which had some debris the biggest one was about 1mm !

soo I will be getting towed !

im not sure if I should tell them I added some fluid in and saw the debris ...

edit; I have a big problem with Ign timing since last november and everytime the ECU would pull a lot of timing
so im wondering if the engine is indeed going out at the same time ... ! the knock sensor are detecting noise and make the ECU pull timing ... I never had any problem with the transmission untill last weeekend.

Evos aren't exactly problem-free, either.. :icon14:

But good luck with fixing your problem. It sucks when your DD goes down and you're left without a car.

I never pretended the EVOX was problem-free ! ;)
because few weeks ago I wanted to exhange my Z for the Evo but since I have way to much $$ invested into the Z ... I decided to keep it :icon14:

The car is being tow right now and should arrive at the dealership in the next hour or so if everything went well ...
Hoping to have some news by the end of the day ! *Cross finger*

Do you have a cooler for the 7AT fluid on there?

Megan370z 09-14-2011 02:41 PM

Update from the dealership ,

The flywheel is cracked badly apparently and ofcourse the front seal on the transmission is leaking which I already knew
Im surprise the flywheel is crack !

I talked with the mechanic who worked on the car and told me the part was backorder :(
when that is done they will proceed with a roadtest

I tried to go a bit deeper into the problem , like talking about the X amount of fluid missing that could have made some damage and would maybe appear in the future.
I was told that they cant really just open it if they know for sure there is a bigger problem than the seal ,,,
and if nothing is wrong I would have to pay for it ?!?! that why did arent doing it right now if during the road test , the hear or see a problem then the next step of the inspection would probably be to look inside the transmission.

so Im waiting a few days to know what would be the possible date for the backorder ETA...

I was also told that if in case something happen , like the transmission fail in 5-10k kms ,
I still have the Power Train warranty 5yrs or 100 000kms

I thought my basic warranty stoped right at 3yrs or 60 000kms (Canada)

MattP725 09-14-2011 08:11 PM

I was about to say.. CA gets ripped, US powertrain is 60k MILES. 100k makes more sense in kilos. Good luck, that's pretty shabby that it cracked with just bolt ons.. maybe it was out of balance.

I just hope so !
because Ive been dealing with Ign timing problem since last november,,,

As soon as I get the car , I will do some datalog to see if anything changed !
knock sensor were detecting to much noise.

Jamaica 09-14-2011 09:16 PM

wow thats crazy. Finally got mine back today.

indyn 09-15-2011 02:38 PM

what mods did you do prior to November. Looks like you've done all the mods yourself.

kosstick 09-15-2011 09:14 PM

Flywheel pulley?? Isn't that related to flywheel

Guard Dad 09-18-2011 08:47 PM

Cracked flywheel, wow! I'm glad to hear that they didn't blame the flywheel damage on your lightweight crank pulley. Since the after market pulley doesn't include a harmonic vibration damper like the OEM pulley I would expect them to say that undamped crankshaft vibrations caused the flywheel to fracture.

Megan370z 09-20-2011 11:48 AM

Update !

The mecanic at the dealership called me earlier and told me they went for a test drive after replacing the cracked flywheel and the seal .

THey are now ordering a brand new transmission which is also Back Order.

Jamaica 09-20-2011 12:14 PM

Thats good news. New transmission.

superchargedg 09-21-2011 05:49 PM

Great news but the wait is gonna suck

Megan370z 11-05-2011 09:44 AM

Update !!!!

I got back from an military exercise in Wainwright (Alberta , Canada) a week ago!
So on last Saturday I went to the dealership to get the Z back !

the complete repair list was principally the flywheel which was badly cracked and the blown transmission.

The service guy called my at home while I was away on exercise and told my GF to take it easy on the new tranny for at least till next year !! and told her no more track time for this year !

2 days ago I went for a ride after about 800kms done on it and decided to datalog to see if by miracle my IGN Timing problem would be changed.

The first pull on the 4th gear up to redline , I saw the timing going where it was suppose to be around 29+- 1
I was surprised and decided to do one on the 5th gear up to 7300rpm
still the same thing !! I hit 29 which was perfect !
and then yesterday I decided to do it again just to make sure of the result that I had the previous day!

I'm very pleased that the knock sensor are now happy ! it was probably due to the cracked flywheel making too much noise which I couldn't hear or see the difference with the headphone knock listening device (Uprev)

0-100mph is now .5sec faster

before sending the Z to the dealership I removed all of intake system & removed Uprev incase they wouldn't like to see the car fully modded !
so I'm even more surprised !

today I'm going to datalog with my custom CAI and restart the tune (Uprev tuner)

Red__Zed 11-05-2011 10:40 AM

Glad to see that things are back in line for you!
