Oil change intervals

All oils start deteriorating down as soon as you start using them. When the engine is running the oil gets polluted with acids, water, and other junk. Unless you have temperature-controlled storage, the engine will "breathe" and more moisture will collect. All that crap sits there and eats away at your oil and engine. After 2200 miles, the oil is probably still doing an adequate job of lubricating, even after 11 months, but it needs to be flushed to get rid of the garbage.

And I agree with the others that the first oil change should be done very early (1500-2500 miles). As pointed out, there will be a lot of junk floating around from break-in.
