shift indicator coming on early

I verified my shift indicator is set for 7500 rpm however the red light frequently comes on as early as maybe 4-4500 rpm. Any thoughts?

Note this is only during very aggressive driving.

First thing I would do is check the settings on the onboard computer. Just go to settings and flip through the options to set the shift indicator to your desired level. If that doesn't work, then I'm honestly not sure what else you could do.

Yup, I assumed when it was coming on early that it was set low. I just checked it, it's set at 7500

I'd go trade it in. It must be a lemon. It doesn't want to go fast. Maybe try reseting the ECU.

lol

I was thinking maybe my clutch was slipping and its just so slight still that it doesnt register on the tach but does register in the ecu obviously thus tripping the indicator

I don't think that would be an issue. How many miles are on the car and do you drive it hard? It's pretty easy to verify clutch slippage. For me anyways. .

14k, and I'm familar with how to identify clutch. I think if it IS slipping, it's very early in the process or just barely glazing. I get a floating/wheel slip feeling when I get on it even after the traction control light settles down.

I run 315 wide tires and I assumed that feeling might be some clutch slip instead of tire spin, but I don't stay on it long enough to discover if the tach revs up and drops because by that time I'm already 80mph + and the floating feeling is enough to make me want to back off fast.

If it was slippage, you'd very easily tell the difference between 4500rpm and 7500rpm...the engine character is completely different at those two levels.

Are you positive it's the shift light flashing? The red BRAKE light along with VDC light will flash if your brake fluid is anything below MAX and you're driving aggressively enough to slosh it around.

The shift light is progressive and blinks faster as you reach the set indication. But for a 7500 RPM setting it would start blinking around 6500-7000, not 4500.

This could be what it is, I'll check my brake fluid today.
