VVEL Cracking?
A little new to the tuning aspect of things but everyone keeps mentioning how the Z will be able to get a lot more power once someone cracks VVEL. Can anyone explain this?
Is it along the lines of cracking the timing so it can be changed? |
yes. Its electronically adjusting timing to make the most power at every RPM.
|
Isn't it adjustable lift? Does it also have the ability to vary valve timing?

I predict that once VVEL is cracked all the guys who traded there Z's for 5.0 Stangs will trade back. :stirthepot: LOL

GTM is working on it.
I'm guessing at least another 10-15 whp is hiding in VVEL tuning... |
Coming some day soon to my z.
But it will be a long time till its ready we will just have to wait for sam to release it. [/b] |
So if and when they crack the VVEL. How will the program be offered? Will it be offered as a reflash or can the program be run through Uprev? Seems the VVEL would have to be more of a personal tune if anything. Not sure. What do you guys think?

ZR1 maybe. :bowrofl:
|
Realistically, after full bolt ons and tune, how much could VVEL add?
|
I'm guessing F/I applications will get about a 50hp gain.

I think people need to stop thinking this is going to be some magical thing.
It will be a very nice addition for tuning both NA & FI, but just one item. |
5-10whp would not be that bad, especially if you can just change it in your existing UpRev tune. I also heard it could be like putting a mild cam in the car, some I'm sure it will help alot down low and add some much needed torque.

I could possibly see the adjusting producing decent gains |

I dont care how much HP we will gain after we install GTM VVEL control
what i really care about is, I hope they release it before the next generation of VHR comes. |

Yea, it could be an alternative to adding aftermarket cams. With whatever they adjust. |

The main thing I think it would help with is improving the low-mid range driveability of the car, which in stock form is fairly anemic. |
+1, all its gonna do is help with lower and mid end on NA cars. Might have the most promise for SC cars...

And before you say it, yes, I should have bought a mustang:rofl2:.

The guy that bought it from me found the same thing out, and he's swapping out the turbo for something much smaller. |

Look at Jnaut... if he runs a drag slick he'll be running 11.8-11.9. That's probably going to be the best an N/A 370 can do. |

what are your plans or hopes for the 5.0? |

When I pick up another car I might SC this one. |

all stangs hitting dealers now are 2012's the new boss 440 hp.we need a 400Z or turbo 370z from factory.

300rwhp just isnt enough anymore |
last i checked, the turbo kits on the 370z are already capable of making the engine put out more power than the engine can even handle with a stock block.
'cracking' VVEL isn't going to be like getting a new ECU in a turbo car. its not gonna be like 'bam 30-50+whp' our cars are tuned pretty well from the factory and already eek out most of the power that the motor has to give. oh yea and: Ben and Jerries Cookie Dough Ice Cream vs. 5.0 Mustang? |
