Oil Change Surprise

So I changed the oil and filter in the Z today, no biggie, done it before. So I pop off the guard, and what do I find? A fricken cigarette butt:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wgw37...2-img-1382.jpg

It's a Camel too:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wgw37...3-img-1383.jpg

Guess that flaming cancer stick got sucked into my grill and wound up on the guard. Man I wish smokers would at least have enough class to put their nasty smokes out in their own car and not flick them out their window treating the world as their giant ash tray. I see it all the time. So inconsiderate of others.

Anybody else find strange objects laying on the guard?

Found a butt in my fender liner while I was installing my oil cooler. I'm guessing it got there the same way yours did. F'ing inconsiderate smokers.

spearfish25 03-26-2011 04:19 PM

Found one in my wheel liner as well. Just driving how today a saw a butt tumbling on the highway in front of me. Didn't see it come out the back though...my car probably took a puff again.

Red__Zed 03-26-2011 04:22 PM

I always love the little random surprises that pop up.

Footloose301 03-26-2011 04:51 PM

I found one in the fender lining while installing my intake. I hate people that litter, or smoke for that matter. It's disgusting. Their excuses don't mean anything to me. So what, they smoke outside, throw it on the ground and then walk into a public place where they still smell like a cigarette.

tjlazer 03-26-2011 05:11 PM

I hate inconsiderate smokers. The world is their ash tray. They don't give a damn, they just want their next fix. I especially hate smokers who will smoke with their kids in their car, or if they give a non smoker a ride, won't obstain from lighting up their cancer stick in their car. If you want to kill yourself--that's fine, but don't kill your kids or someone else in the process.

I see butts a fly'in towards my car all the time! I just drop it into 3rd and pass them up. I ALSO HATE when I am behind a smoker, especially if I have my windows down, and I smell smoke all the way home. Really aggravating. I try to pass them too. Don't really want to smell smoke all the way home.

TreeSemdyZee 03-26-2011 07:39 PM

I found Jimmy Hoffa in my fenderwell.

Someone tossed a cigarette butt out the window right in front of me on the highway today. Pisses me off. If you must smoke, please put your butts in an ash tray in the car and then dispose of them properly when you stop. :shakes head:

I walk a mile for a Camel...

tjlazer 03-26-2011 09:35 PM

I changed my front bumper this weekend and found a cig in there too!

So, why do you remove the whole splash shield? I just have remove 3 bolts on the folding part, and use a bungee cord to hold it down while I work...

christian370z 03-26-2011 10:01 PM

Pretty amazing, I found one my bumper when I took it off last. Maybe the Z has picked up a smoking habit?

KillerBee370 03-26-2011 10:23 PM

Wow.. this post really got me wondering so I went ahead and took off my guard and holy sh*t!!! I was wondering where those things went!

Check with your state (google it)...most have a toll free phone line to report litter, specifically cigarette butts and other items people throw out. They will want the location, type of violationa and the tag number. South Carolina is 1-877-7Litter. I understand the state will mail a letter to the offender advising they were reported...might make "think" before they do it again.

I remember driving in NYC and coming to a stop at a red light. The woman in the car next to mine, opened her window (this is at the intersection during a red light) and emptied a whole TRAY of McDonald food (drink, left over, papers, bags, ketchup) on the road. I couldn't believe it. I was so disgusted.

No sand in mine. I double checked only to find a lit cigarette butt. I knew something didn't feel quite right. :)

Thanks for all the responses. It appears that the 370z is in just the right position to collect these offending butts. I just wish they weren't flaming and still wet with slobber or lip stick when they get sucked in. Oh well.

As far as the smell, well, it is offensive to many, but not the end of the world. Just like burping or farting, it's a gas with an odor that has been inside someones body. It's released, and we have to smell and breathe it. Yuk. I certainly don't have a problem with all smokers, just the ones that are slobs and improperly dispose of thier cigarette remains.

Smoking is gross and I hate it as well, and tomorrow I will be starting a cig free life. Nothing to do with this thread just need to quit. But I will say if you haven't read the study they did on second hand smoke being bad for you I would recommend finding it. The way they did their study was ridiculous, they put like 5-6 people in a non ventilated, smokey 8'x8' room and those people ended up with issues. So seriously if you think you're going to get cancer because you walked through someone's smoke puff outside you're an idiot.

If it gets tough grab some of these (or one like them)....

Electric Cigarette, Electronic E Cigarettes | Green SmokeŽ

I know two people that quit using them. Best of luck!

Awesome! I wish you the best of luck in quitting. I know it's hard, I quit over 10 years ago and feel so free now (I know, I know, nothing worse than a reformed smoker). It had such a grip on me, that I would basically plan my actions on when I could smoke my next one. I don't judge smokers, just the slob smokers.

Yeah, I knew about second hand smoke not being as deadly as they would like you to believe . Thats the trouble with studies, they can aways slant the results, by leaving out details, to support their agenda and people blindly believe it.

Well again, good luck with quitting. It will be tough, but the payoff is priceless.

butts out the window here are a $1000 fine, i just wish it was enforced!

4r3s 03-31-2011 12:09 PM

Thanks guys, I've talked to my doctor, I've identified my triggers, I've created simple tasks to take my mind off smoking when I get a craving, and I've purchased the first step for the patch. I am really serious about doing this now. For the past few years I've kept telling myself I need to quit now, then it turned to before I turn 30. Well I turn 30 in August this year so its time to man up and kick the cigs in the butt. I just love smoking too much and I can seriously feel in my body how bad this habit affects my overall health.

haggomyeggo 03-31-2011 01:42 PM

before i knew how cars worked i was always afraid that a car would suck up the butt all the way into the engine.......i may have been 6 at the time though.....i do still hate this. One reason Illinois is pretty awesome. No smoking in bars anymore. They make the smokers huddle out in the cold

smokers :gtfo2:

me :happydance:

Liquid_G 03-31-2011 01:52 PM

ya but now all the bars here smell like stale beer and piss instead of smoke.

KillerBee370 03-31-2011 02:46 PM

Sh!t whatever. I mean given all the other crap strewn all over the road I don't see what the big deal is with a little cigarette butt in the tray.

Now why oh why can't I change my oil and find a diamond ring or at least a fiver in there!

dad 03-31-2011 03:10 PM

People get cancer who have never smoked, drank, or did drugs, in their life.

Sometimes those patches dont work... I have heard of people who light up with a damn patch...or with the gum

because....

Nicotine is out of your system in less than three days... Your cravings for a cigarette are ALL habits.
-get in a car and light up
-finish a meal and light up
-go to the bathroom and light up
-get out of work and light up, etc...

Best thing to do is substitute the habit with another temporary one, to keep your brain busy, that way an action is still being carried out. Personally i went with these little sour candy things, with no sugar to prevent becoming diabetic.
http://www.sugarstand.com/images/sc/sc0108c.jpg
I used to go through a box every week or so... I now don't even buy them anymore, so they did their job.

But at the end of the day.. you just need to say... its enough and not light up... is it hard? sure. I quit cold turkey and it sucked for the first month or so.

it is one hell of habit though I must admit... if it wasn't because I really want to dedicate myself 100% to cycling... i would have probably kept going on.

Good luck with the quit.

Yes and they are a huge minority compared to smokers. Your point?

90% of lung cancer cases are from smokers, 10% from non. So it's ok to smoke?

Another laughable argument from smokers: George Burns smoked and lived to be 100. So it's ok to smoke. Gotcha.

KillerBee370 03-31-2011 04:11 PM

I don't think that's what he was getting at. The point being, to each their own. I personally think it's f'ing disgusting and stupid given the risks involved but let's face it, the government is getting WAY too much profit to kill it just for the sake of our "health".

Quit 30 years ago. But when I take a call at the office, I still find myself reaching into my shirt pocket----though now for a Tic-Tac!
Cigarette smoking was a very tough habit to break. I sympathize with all those who are dealing with it.

kenchan 03-31-2011 04:33 PM

one bad habit i need to get rid of is DietPepsi. i was a ClassicCoke person until i saw my PDR trainer fix a ding in less than 2min and i thought it had to do something with the drink he was sipping.

now i drink the poison like 5-6 cans a day on the weekend. :icon14: since there's no sugar like coke, it's healthier.... :icon14: i will probably die soon...
