Exclamation Getting Nissan to do something about the oil cooler...

Hey Everyone,

Talked to my Nissan dealership's service manager about getting an oil cooler installed. Told him about the plight we're all experiencing with the price and availability of the NISMO oil cooler and some of the possible issues with using a Stillen 25 row oil cooler on a NISMO. He recommended I call 1 800 NISSAN 1 and talk to Customer Affairs, so I did and filed a complaint about the issue.

I know some have gotten written responses basically from the company indicating that the car works as it should when not being pushed. But has anybody called yet, further more in high volume?

I have the name and extension the rep I spoke with today...I'm sure if more than enough of us called with the same complaint to the same person, it would make it very clear to Nissan that we are not happy with the oil cooler situation.

What do you guys say?

If you want your voice heard Call 1 800 NISSAN 1 xt 47235 CA Rep: Tiffany

I know this is nothing new, but at least I'm trying to do something about it, not just for me but for Z owners in general.

@CCastro

I'm guessing Nissan never responded?

From the oil cooler thread:

Aggressive driving of the 370Z on a race track at sustained high engine speeds can cause increases in oil temperature and may activate this engine protection system. To avoid activation of this engine protection system and these reduced peak engine speeds, Nissan recommends an oil cooler be fitted to the 370Z before driving it on a race track. A Nissan Motorsports accessory oil cooler kit is available for customer purchase through authorized Nissan dealerships for race track use. The part number is 21300-SS370.

An oil cooler is not necessary for normal operation of the vehicle on public roads. The addition of an oil cooler would have raised the price of the car and potentially moved it out of the reach of some customers. Value has been a core principle of the Z car since the original 240Z and we choose to uphold this core principle by not adding additional costs that are unnecessary for normal use. For those individuals who choose to drive their vehicle on a race track, the oil cooler is available as an aftersales item.

They aren't going to do anything about it.. you are pissing in the wind my friend.

buy yourself an oil cooler and enjoy your car.

Yeah I've already read that pile of bull ****.

I was going that route until they told me that they don't have it in stock and that it is back ordered for who knows how long. Sorry I'm not paying for something that I might get months later on down the road at this point. I just started looking in to this and there are other things to try, anyone who gives up that easily deserves to pay $780 and wait up to 4 months for something that isn't even usable yet.

Why such thin skin regarding this topic? If you're complacent, spent the money already on the oil cooler and or simply have no drive to do anything about it, why does this thread pertain to you? Unless you're bored and looking for a flame?

I bought an oil cooler last year, because after READING the dozens of threads about this topic, I realized that Nissan wasn't going to do jack about it. So i bought a cooler and haven't had to worry about oil temps since.

Also, oil coolers don't cost $780, they can be had for half that and can be purchased today.. They just don't say "NISSAN" on them.. most say Setrab.

Good luck on your quest for a free oil cooler. Post up pics when you get it.

Well, whatever you do, get one with a 200-210*F thermostat so you keep oil temps at optimal levels and don't have to **** around with the block off plate BS in the winter...

Thanks for jumping to conclusions. You automatically assume that because my post count is < 20, that I haven't done my research.

Glad the solution was so simple for you. My car is new, under warranty, happens to be a NISMO and needs a proper oil cooler that is currently in stock that doesn't have any fitment issues and doesn't invalidate my warranty. Is this making sense yet?

Again, I already did my research. My options are a bit more limited than yours were.

Thanks for nothing. Where did I say I wanted it for free? I filed a complaint and asked for help.
I won't likely be posting pics because most likely nothing will come of this but, thanks for drawing this out because the time it took me to file a complaint was less than having to respond to all of your crap.

Thanks dad. Those were my sentiments exactly. The operative word is try. Can't believe this is so bothersome to some people around here.

Are you sure about that? I thought even the Nissan cooler voided the warranty...? I'd double check to make sure.

Warranties aren't voided unless the aftermarket part caused the problem. It's been said a hundred million times. Then comes the argument that Nissan will still blame the part and you'll have to go to court. Then one rebuts that you can remove an oil cooler before taking the car in for service. Then the angel says that's dishonest. Then you just reach down, find your balls, and make a decision about installing an oil cooler or not.
