Mine is a bit different, and I've not had a chance to get a video of it. At first I thought it was a hot start, but it happens on cold start as well (early in the morning). It idles very rough and low, and it sometimes dies if I don't give it gas. Other times I leave it alone, and it slowly fires up and idles fine all in a matter of a few seconds. When the engine struggles to idle smoothly it sounds like an old V8 cranking.

I'm having the same issue with my new Z. She only has 3K miles on her. She starts up fine in the morning, but then when I leave the gym or work a few hours later, she doesn't want to start. Really embarrassing with a brand new car. :shakes head: Is it really possible for a new car to have a leaking fuel injector?

Is this problem you're having?

I posted in that thread as well, but everyone else is suggesting the cats failed. Test pipes on the way in a few weeks. Hopefully that will resolve several issues.

Rusty, YES. Mine did this from the start... although I didn't notice it much in the cold months when I bought the car. It showed up more in the hot months later on. Your description sounds exactly like the issue I had. Bring it in, show them this post, and possibly my video and have them check the injectors. I and many others suffered from this for months, with some giving up on the fix. It has been confirmed now that replacing the injectors is the fix. If the dealer gives you any trouble send me a PM and I'll give you the name of my dealer/service manager in case they want to talk to each other about it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna schedule an appointment sometime this week. I'll post an update after that. I hope this fixes it.

How'd things go Rusty?

RustyM2001 06-15-2013 09:22 AM

I'm sitting in the dealership right now......waiting...... Hopefully this issue gets fixed today. I'll give an update later today.

Let me know how it goes. The test pipes didn't help. Still had issues getting it to idle after a start. I just give it gas while it struggles to idle to help it. I probably need a new tune.

Sorry its been awhile since I've been up here. Went out of country on vacation and now I'm trying to get the car finally fixed. They couldn't find anything on that last post and I had somewhere to go, so I just left. The car has been in the shop this week though and the update is.......this will probably be the last Nissan vehicle I buy. I love my car, but they are trying to pend it on my aftermarket radio. I've got to completely pull it out of the car before they go any further in diagnosing her. This dealership is over an hour away, so going back in forth is crazy. Not sure how a radio install in a base model could cause this issue. I'll keep you guys updated.

Hi Rusty,

I wouldn't blame the Stealership service dept. stupidity on Nissan.
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, the stereo causing the engine to malfunction. Good luck with that one. But, I guess you ought to go ahead and put the radio back in, it's your word against theirs, the time you spend fighting with them over the radio not causing the issue you could be getting the real problem fixed.

Yay!!! Another hater!

I guess they think your stereo is using too much juice? Lol

RustyM2001 07-15-2013 12:20 AM

Well I put my base stereo system back in the car, only to have the same problem happen. Looks like she will be at the dealership for a while, starting Tuesday. Wonder what they'll say now........guess the aftermarket tint is causing it!

I have repaired the youtube link for anyone needing it.

370z hard start after sitting - YouTube

Replace all 6 fuel injectors to fix this issue!!

RustyM2001 07-16-2013 09:18 AM

Thanks for doing that bro! That is the same, exact thing my car does after being warmed up. Getting reafy to take to the dealership now. I'm gonna show them your video. I contacted Nissan about my issue too and have someone following up with the dealership/me. Again thanks a lot for retrieving the video! I'll keep everyone updated.
