The factory fill was never confirmed to be the Nissan ester oil, but it is what we assume.

Most people short the first change in order to flush any left overs from the break-in.

Ester oil is not required but it does make the top end run quieter. People have had success with many other premium synthetic oils.

7000 miles? That's pushing it. I had an oil analysis done by Blackstone Labs on my factory oil after 1300 miles. Blackstone said they were pleased I changed the oil early and to change it every 3000 miles until the wear settled down. The oil itself had plenty of life left, but there will be excess silicone and metal shavings present in the oil for awhile.

Whatever oil came with the car from the factory. It may or may not have been Nissan ester oil.

I would change it more often and the ester oil is NOT required by Nissan. If they tell you that, they're lying.

If you want to use something with ester in it, use Mobil 1. It's a whole lot cheaper than the over-priced snake oil that they're selling. The dealer's price of $120 is robbery. I did mine once and paid $92.

If you do want to use the Nissan oil, buy it online. Z1 Motorsports (site sponsor) has a kit for $59.99. Oil, filter and crush washer. You have to add shipping also. Cheaper if you buy multiples because the shipping gets cheaper per kit.

weird. i would assume that they wouldn't use a synthetic for break in period. wouldn't a conventional oil do a better job of helping an engine wear in?

Buy the kit and take it to the dealership. You're not obligated to buy the parts from them. I do it all of the time.
My dealer charges about 8 bucks labor.

A few dollars at oil change time is cheap to get the service department on your side.

According to what I read the Nissan Ester oil is not a full synthetic. It is a dyno/synthetic blend with synthetic additives. Does make you wonder how they justify $12 a quart for this magic juice, no?

Doing it your self and keeping record of it is the same as the dealer keeping record of it. Dont let the dealer think that you need to use there oil or got it changed by them to keep your warranty its all B.S.
