Default Does not like to wake up

I am new to the Z world with the recent purchase of my 370 and I am very happy I joined. I do have a question about start up in the morning it seems to sound a bit rough for about 10 seconds and then it sounds just fine. I do remember when I was at the dealer we started 2 other Z’s and they sounded the same as mine. Is this normal or is it a break in thing I look forward to the response to this question and many more because this is a great site to go to for all things Z

The reason it sounds louder is because the engine run's at a slightly higher RPM to warm up on a cold day. Usually normal warm day it'll run at about 1000 RPM and on cold day 1300 RPM

Thanks for the reply it is not so much the RPM level but the sound of the motor at start up
it sounds like there is no oil in the top end and then after about 10 seconds it sounds great.

Are you new to the world of sports cars or just the Z, cus it's pretty common with high performance vehicles.

Dry engine. Once the oil and coolant gets fully distributed through the systems, the engine quiets.

Thanks guys for the info
Yes I am some what new to the sports car world in 06 I purchased a new Eclipse GT for my wife but needless to say it was no where near the car that this is. No offence to the Mits guys it was a good car but it is not apples to apples. I gotta say that this car makes me feel smart, all that you get for the price that you pay is outstanding. Thanks again for the help with this question and I look forward to talking with you guys soon.

The VQ's seem to be a bit louder/rougher at start up than most engines I've heard. My dad's Xterra (VQ40DE) kinda sounds a little rough at start up but quiets down after a few seconds. My HR sedan is the same. His older Pathfinder (VG33DE) was noticeably quieter.

I've noticed the VQ37VHR being very rough for the first 15 or 20 seconds on a cold start. It has NOTHING to do with how high it is idling. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the VVEL. Nissan has probably programmed it to do something bizarre on cold starts for better emissions. The exhaust note is so rough sounding....and then it just slowly smooths out and sounds fine.

It's also real bizarre that if you tap the gas (even slightly), the engine revs WAY up....and stays at like 3000rpm for a few seconds. Even when letting off the throttle, it still stays revved up there for a few seconds. Again, why I say that it has something to do with how the VVEL/timing advance is programmed to reduce hydrocarbon output from the tailpipe.

Late,
Trav

And check your oil level at least every week or two.
