Change in clutch pedal pressure.

Ok, I just hit 2,000 miles on my car today, to give you an idea of use.

For the first 2,000 miles the clutch pedal had a very noticeable change in outward pressure when you reached the engagement point. It was smooth for the first six inches or so off the floor, then as you engaged the clutched it kind of would change in pressure. From all accounts this was normal.

Now today, leaving for work, that 'nudge' at the engagement point is gone and it's very smooth feeling. It feels better and I like it, but the feel while driving is so different that it leads me to believe something is wrong. All fluids seem to be fine and nothing is leaking on the ground. Shifting is fine, but the pedal just seems a bit weaker on the way up. It doesn't get stuck or anything, just less pressure. Can any of you pros either set my mind at ease or give me the bad news? Is this just part of it breaking in?

Clutches take time to break in. That is normal. For some reason I feel like the clutch on my Z feels different every time I drive it! It will start to make noise, and then feel a little more "sloppy" do not worry... this is all a characteristic of the lovely Nissan clutches. You can take it in to the dealership, and they will tell you it is "normal" If you search for "Clutch" using the search function a bunch of threads will pop up about the issues and quirks

most likely not your problem... but if you've been through some 'severe' driving ie heavy traffic in hot weather... the clutch master cylinder went out in my car and another member's as well. see the following link...

in my car, the clutch was noticeablely different the night before it completely went out.

My clutch, after almost 5k miles, is much more smooth than when I bought the car. It almost felt like it *needed* to pop back up when I first drove it, but now is much more fluid.

Nissans in general are plagued with problems in the clutch hydraulics. Master cylinders and slave cylinders, sometimes both. Typically, if you're having the all-famous Nissan clutch malfunction, the clutch pedal won't come back up after being depressed and won't disengage the clutch. MULTIPLE Altima/Maxima/Sentra and 350Z's have been affected. It IS a design flaw and Nissan has made it pretty clear that they aren't going to fix it. Usually, the problem shows up with aggressive and high rpm engagement. It's happened to my 370Z once, but happened to my 2007 Altima 3.5SE MULTIPLE times.

It's a well documented problem if you start searching around on other Nissan forums.

Keep changing your clutch fluid. I do mine every 2000 miles, it is very easy to do

OP, i got the same feeling today.. when driving back from work... did you experience any problems ? or was this just a result of the clutch being broken in...

despite it being an old thread, yeah my clutch used to feel spongy sometimes, stiffer sometimes, slower to come back up etc.

Threw in a SS clutch line and motul fluids and it definitely made the cluth much much more consistant and even. Engages the same way, feels the same way. I know others had this done as well and can probably share their thoughts on it as well.
