i live in wisconsin and when mycar was running it had 220 degree casual temps and i've seen 260 more than once and 300 once (some serious twisties). I would bet that in a hypothetical situation if you drove the car at more than 100mph for a minute it would be well over 250 all the time. that must piss off the german owners can legally do those speeds regularly.

my thread lives! its ALIIiiIiiVE!

(why?) :D

I wonder how people's perception of this issue has changed over time....

Right now with the regular stillen oil cooler in Florida summer heat.. highway cruising 75mph it sits at 180. 80-90mph cruising it sits at 190. Sprints and it hits 200.

City driving im regularly at 190-200. If I really baby it 180. If there's traffic 200-205.

about 200F normally, in stop start traffic about 210

spearfish25 06-03-2010 04:35 PM

It must be getting warmer outside...

Around 180 normal. If I do some "spirited driving" it'll go up to 195-200.

FuszNissan 06-03-2010 05:52 PM

105 Celsius

Hit 91 F outside temp today. Oil was at 215 F, highway cruising at 80mph.

Might have to buckle down and get an oil cooler. Tracking won't be fun if this summer is going to be this hot.

what is the best oil to use in the 370z and what oil cooler is the best

jcasti07 07-20-2012 12:43 AM

I'm driving a 2012 Nismo and I've read several of these threads regarding oil temp issues. I've had the car for six months and I just started to monitor the temperature more carefully. While driving in el paso during the summer (90-100 degree weather) I fluctuate between 180-200 and I hit around 220 when I push the car. my question is whether Nissan has installed an oil cooler for the newer models. anyone know?

Yes there is an oil cooler on the 2012+ models.

I've seen 240 here in Phoenix in summer and driving hard. Noticed this happens when revs stay high.

microh86 03-26-2016 10:14 AM

Mine sits at 220 all year round and hits 230 while spirited driving

Fulton16 06-23-2016 12:06 PM

So what is a dangerous temperature to reach? and or sit at?

JARblue 06-23-2016 12:21 PM

IMO, anything over 240F on the gauge you should be actively trying to reduce the temps (i.e. back off the throttle). That's about the hottest mine gets driving across Texas at highway speeds during the summer.

That's without any oil cooler. I can hit 260F easily with spirited driving, but I rarely do. I generally change the oil if I see the temps go above that on the gauge.

Ronin06 06-25-2016 12:36 PM

Depending upon outside temp, mine runs between 180 and 200.

Nice to know 220 is not uncommon.
