I was just going to say that :icon18:

For like the 500millionth time I have an AT just because my 350z was a MT and wanted a change. Personal change.

junior_jam 06-24-2011 07:34 PM

Went with an AT for a couple of reasons:

1. Have 5 year old who sits in the front seat...don't want both hands occupied all the time.

2. It's faster :)

I couldn't do without #1. I appreciated #2. I'd prefer a manual for the connection you get with the car, but the connection I have with my son is better than any connection I can have with a car. :hello:

**edit**
OP, what did you end up getting?

Shado is absolutely correct that the ability to drive a manual can be a huge advantage in an emergency. Imo the understanding and focus required to properly drive a manual would be very good for these people who drive around putting on make-up, reading, texting, and adjusting the radio all at the same time in traffic no less. Different perspective.

I am guessing you are REALLY young and this is either your first or second car. I hope you appreciate your parents a lot because some of us had to buy our own cars. Mine was a piece of crap 1971 Dodge Cornet that cost me $250. I am now 39 and this is by far the nicest car I have ever owned! Anyways, auto or stick you have a Z and are a very lucky person.

DrEvil 06-25-2011 08:14 AM

I got my car brand new for a really good price ( almost 10k off of sticker -brandy new) and it has the AT At first I drove it in A mostly all the time. Since I learned the car I now drive it 95% M mode and I find it awesome. I don't feel shorted 'bout not having a manual tranny. I do believe that this trans is the best of both worlds. In 38 years of driving never saw an at that behaves like this one-enjoy!

dudesky 06-25-2011 11:34 AM

uhh...I'm not that young, and I said I know how to drive manual. I only pay partial amount for my Z and my parents are helping me pay the most so that's why I had to obey them. you guys are just bashing me for drive auto and think I'm stupid. I don't think so. I was going to buy really old car with manual trans because then I can pay it. But I wanted to get Z so bad that I just got it as an auto since my parents said they gonna help me pay for me. I hope you guys understand my situation and don't curse at me. TMy point was that I want people to love automatic as much as manual. Thanks guys

chuckd05 06-25-2011 03:31 PM

We all curse at you ! Also we will throw rocks at you if we see you. Lol. Enjoy the Zs auto or manual, they're all the same car at the end of the day.

We only curse at you a little..not too much tho!

No worries dude, we don't think you're stupid either...:ugh2:

Manual or AT...doesn't matter. Enjoy your ride and contribute often my friend!

i could care less what others think, it's all about u like..period.

UNKNOWN_370 06-25-2011 06:11 PM

AT drivers are losers. Manual drivers have small penises. DCT drivers rule. Hahahahaha.

I thought i'd break the monotony. :happydance:

I have AT...cocks shotgun to take on all comers...

Ah, but I have foiled you good sir. As your hands are occupied, downshifting and controlling your azz swinging steed, I have slapped the paddle shifter in one fluid motion after pumping my shotgun in slow motion, fired what some might call incendiary buckshot (a la Hollywood), and sent your car into it's blazing final resting place.

happytheman 06-25-2011 10:12 PM

But alas..while you were slowly pumping your "gun", I was revving my Z to 3500rpm and dumped the clutch...which allowed me to most ceremoniously dust you in asphalt as I roared by! What you saw most unceremoniously exploding was my AT-based Z that stands in during times of possible danger. The AT takes the damage while the real deal lives on to tell another tale! BWAHAHAHAHAA

dudesky 06-26-2011 10:31 AM

haha. Thank you guys for understanding me :) It's just that there are so many people around me keep harassing me for having my Z as an auto and call my Z a fake...anyway after 3 years of full payment, I'm going to trade my Z in to manual and can't wait! :) Drive safe guys :)

Fake? Is it made by Nissan? Does it have a badge on the left side of the rear bumper that says 370z? If you can say yes to both of these questions I think these people that you are referring to can rest assured its the real McCoy..and they fan go to Hell! I hope these aren't people that you consider to be friends. If they are, you might consider getting some new ones.

Fvck those pricks.

McFrostyJ 06-26-2011 11:24 PM

I agree with the above 100%!

dudesky 06-27-2011 11:51 AM

no no my friends. They are def not my friends haha. How can I be friends with pple who call my Z a fake?!!! h*ll no! :) they are like either random people I meet or little kids I used to know. Everytime they do that, I always go like "then race me b**ch, let see what fake Z can do" and they won't race and because they are scared. haha

KaienZ34 06-27-2011 11:59 AM

You should ask them.."So where's your Z? O'yeah that's right you drive a civic."

now a dual clutch sequential... I might be convinced, but the car would have to have a black horse on a yellow background on the badge...

2010-z Gun Metallic 7-AT. 11,400 miles, mint with seibon Carbon NSM wing with support base painted color matched and wing body exposed Carbon-Fiber. Fully loaded with factory navigation, illuminated kick panels, absolutely every option it can possibly have from the factory...Looking to trade mine for a 6-MT just because I miss the "Seat of the Pants" feel. I bought it after test driving both, and thought I was getting old enough to not miss the gear banging but I think I made a mistake! Its Bone stock as it sits but looking at the STILLEN VQ37 supercharger and dont know if the 7-AT will hold up to it as they claim an increase to 515hp???? Anyone know of superchargers/turbo chargers running on the 7-AT Platform???

Also anyone wanting to consider trade email me at cprokesh@hotmail.com. Would greatly appreciate any views on the 7-AT reliability with a blower. Thanks.

wstar 12-01-2011 07:36 AM

Go with the 6MT if you're gonna do forced induction, or upgrading the 7AT to match will likely double the cost. If you don't mind losing the nostalgia of working the clutch (and hell with SRM you've already lost heel-toe unless you just really want to disable SRM and DIY), the 7AT works great on the track. My POV on this is there's 10,000 other things I need to focus on and learn about track driving, and that clutch being out of the picture is just one less to worry about. Every time I've been out, I get at least 1 manual driver coming up to me after a session and asking about it enviously, because they were behind me for a downshift into a corner, e.g. this one:

I'm not sure if it's even been TRUELY confirmed that the Z has the same 7AT as the FX50.

It's not in-house, it's made by a company called Jatco. Jatco makes two versions of the tranny with different torque ratings. The lower-rated version is in our Z, and the higher rated version is in the FQ50/QX56. No idea if Benz uses Jatco's transmission too, but I'd be surprised.

Guys, if we are going to tell members not open new threads, and instead comment in old ones, we can't get annoyed with them when they do it.

Edit: Thread has been cleaned appropriately.

I agree the main reason I got auto as well. and yes regardless of auto or manual the fun factor is def there.:driving:

UNKNOWN_370 12-01-2011 07:34 PM

As far as this automatic goes. Its virtual to a dct transmission in overall feel. Of course it doesn't have the advantages of DCT, and needs modification if you plan on boosting to over 400hp. But its general performance is equal to high end DCT's. Acceleration is smooth on paddles, and mildly jerky on the stick, reminiscent of 80's manual transmissions. DS mode while in auto is good if you need a quick boost in acceleration but not enjoyable for overall performance driving. The car feels more alive when the stick is dropped and smacked to the left. From there use either stick or paddles for the real fun. The only drawback to the auto isn't in the transmission. Its in the exhaust. The autos are quieter. So an aftermarket exhaust makes the car sound more interesting.
The difference in acceleration times makes the auto essential if straight line times mean something to you as well. While the auto has hit accel times of 4.6/13.1. The manual is slower by .3 seconds on both numbers. On brisk days like today, my car feels like it might even be a tad faster than the fastest written time from car mags.

As to which transmission is better? Its just personal preference as to what you want or need. Imho they both offer equal fun. But for some operating a clutch makes them feel more useful in the car. Others may pride themselves in doing burnouts. Other than that I think both are compelling and a joy to drive.
