Doesn't matter. People are going to get what they want. No one choice is better or worse than the other.

If/when I get my Z, 1/4 mile time will be the farthest thing from mind. And I think it's safe to say it'll be that way for 95% of the people out there considering one.

schrute 03-22-2010 12:16 AM

test drive both. then make your decision. who give a ____ what other people think, you're the one that has to live with your choice and drive it everyday.

personally i chose the MT, wouldn't have it any other way. but in a different situation i could've gone the other way. again, you're decision, don't let others make it for you. my :twocents:

im coming for you Z eliminator , lol , just playing....

but i see no reason why I should believe its quicker.. These cars are finicky to get off the line... your 12.8 was on street tires right ? What was your 60 ft? Outside of the initial jump I do not see how the auto should be any faster... and do you go through in 4th and at what RPM ?

Z eliminator 03-22-2010 07:16 AM

Yes it was on street tire's 19/ 35/ 275 bridgstones. The 60 ft was 1.964. the 1/8 th was 8.32 @ 86.36. I went throught the traps in 5th gear. The 1st to 2nd shift was really quick and so was 2nd to 3rd. I just love the paddle shifters. I launched at 1100 rpm. can not wait for the drag radials im hoping for 2200 rpm this time.
If you are free this summer bring your car to the Ontario Z Drag day at St thomas race way it just missed going 12.79's by .0009. Once the track lost traction the car is a nightmare to lauch and i was up to 2.06 to 2.30 60 ft times and the times were in the 12.95. to my terrible 13.45. It went up in smoke of the line.
Let me know if your interested and i will email you the dates.

Before the auto owners start claiming that the GT-R, Ferrari's, Lambos ect come in automatic. Lets stop right there. First off...

The GT-R, Ferrari's, and Lambos DSG transmissions all use clutches, NOT TORQUE CONVERTERS. You cannot compare a conventional automatic like the one in the 370Z to DSG transmissions. TOTALLY different types of transmissions and technology. DSG is derived from F1 racing technology, torque converter automatics like the 370Z are found in minivans, trucks, and family sedans.

The 7spd AT is a very good automatic, just like the 6spd steptronic in my 335i, rev matching and full lockup. The problem is, they still behave and react like regular automatics. Just like the 8spd AT in the IS-F, if you drive one, it shifts very fast, but when you take control of it with the paddles and tell it when to shift, there is still delay (which drives me crazy) and it hunts for gears a lot if you left it alone to do its own thing.

Suck on this, bitches:

Lamborghini to drop manuals from their lineup

Lamborghini has just shocked the motoring world and not by producing a shocking new supercar, but by announcing something that will make motoring purists cry rivers. The Italian supercar maker has announced that it will leave manual transmissions to the history books, just like Ferrari.

According to Car and Driver, the decision was part of the company’s commitment to increasing the fuel economy of its models; something that Lamborghinis of the past, before the German influence, didn’t give a hoot about. In addition to scrapping the good old-fashioned manuals, Lambo says it plans to build ever-lighter exotics.

Don’t expect to see any turbocharged Gallardos in the next few years, though. Most automakers around the world are using forced induction in order to curb fuel consumption and maintain power. Lamborghini feel otherwise, as they have no plans to add turbochargers to their engines. Instead, look for stop/start tech and cylinder deactivation to emerge over the next few years, as well as a mild-hybrid car.

One wonders how much influence Audi is having on the Raging Bull.

Who thinks of fuel economy when they buy a lambo?...Seriously?

It wont have an impact on sales though. TBH I barely ever see a manual lambo or supercar of the likes. I'd say 99.9% of purist cannot afford supercars and stick with cars like ours or high/lower in the price range.

Well if you would say it, it's a credible statement we can take to the bank. I'm sure your 99.9% estimate is based on scientific theory and data.

Considering the worlds population is approaching 7 billion people, that would mean roughly 70million people would be able to afford lambo's

So even if my numbers aren't scientific I think they make sense.

I was just bustin your balls, but to defend what I was saying:
You didn't say lambos, you said supercars, and many affordable cars are considered supercars these days.

Got me on the word choice there, I agree with you.

btw- have you joined anon? lol

Majestik 03-30-2010 12:25 AM

I've owned the 7AT and loved the auto but also missed driving manual so my replacement 370Z is a manual.
Let me ask you...
- Do you regularly travel in start/stop traffic in a manual and hate it everytime you do so? Then get the auto as you have the best of both worlds.

- Are you put off manual only cause of it's inability to take off smoothly but still love the control of having a manual? Then get the MT6 as the syncro-rev makes it an entirely different manual car to drive.

Sounds like a driver issue.

Ride around in my GF's automatic with her behind the wheel, you'd wish you were with me in my 6MT after all the jerkiness and senseless braking/accelerating! Hahaha!

Demon370z 05-06-2010 02:29 AM

I drove manual for years and after driving the auto 370z I gotta admit, I seriously can care less for the shifting. I can already shift with those paddle shifters and besides...The new GTR doesn't even come in manual and is push button start like the 370z + paddle shifting galore on both vehicles. Im glad they came out with the auto and definitely getting one as early as...this afternoon!:happydance:

Anyone put there with an automatic? I've been reading various reviews on the automatic and a few were really bad! A few however were not...

So i would like to hear what do you think? Should I go for auto or stick to manual?

Thanks

No street driven sport car should ever be produced with an AT.

Diocletian 05-06-2010 09:36 AM

Speak for yourself. Let people get what they want. :)

Performance and comfort wise the AT can't be beat. I will admit that a manual can be more thrilling...when you have an open road and no traffic. If you like manual, get one. If you think it's no big deal to you, go with the AT.

While I am still 95% getting the 7AT, if my wife does not mind me getting the MT, I would definately pick that up. That is primarily due to the fact that I plan to work from the home office more this year, or will be traveling. Thus, a 'daily driver' will not really be needed.

Again, either way, you can't go wrong. You are still in a Z!!!

Get her an a/t accord, teach her how to drive a manual like I did to my wife. Then you are all set to get the 6MT. One thing I worries all the time is that my wife shouldn't be driving my Z at all. :D

370z manual or auto?

jst wondering which transmmition would be a better choice?

Just get what make you Happy. :)
7AT is quicker by a small margin.
Threads with questions like this usually get locked.

MBLAQ 10-25-2010 02:31 AM

i have the manual, and i kinda prefer i got a auto.
the gearbox is not my cup of tea. i used to have an s2000, so im really used to a short shifter with a small knob. the stock 370 just doesnt give the fun feeling when i shift :(

red6spd 10-25-2010 10:24 AM

Thats not really a decision anyone else but yourself can make. I got a stick because I feel its more fun, and I have more control over the car.

LuckyJinx 10-25-2010 01:31 PM

Manual, more fun.

I want a Z 10-25-2010 01:34 PM

Auto - you have the option to shift if you want and you will be happier in traffic jams

tjlazer 10-25-2010 01:57 PM

Synchro Rev Match!

mick 10-25-2010 02:48 PM

since you are undecided, go for the auto.

because you have to put more effort into driving a manual transmission car, it should be something that you know you want to get :)

m4a1mustang 10-25-2010 02:51 PM

Among manual transmissions the Z's is only "average." The SRM feature is awesome, though.

If you like driving manual, get the manual. If you aren't sure, you're probably better off with the automatic. Among automatic transmissions it's "very good."

Eric 10-25-2010 03:27 PM

Well my only choice would be to get the manual transmission because the wife won't drive a standard. If I got an automatic then I'd never get to drive it. :)
