How dark an oil looks is not an accurate way of determining if it's "fresh" or not. Time, driving conditions, temperature and type of engine are the critical elements. I agree with AK on the fact that, even though it just sat there for 9 months, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to have it changed. BUT, for peace-of-mind's sake, I would do it, just to be on the safe side. Motor oil tends to get dark rather quickly, simply 'cause it's doing its job, so go by the 4 elements I mentioned earlier.
