HELP: Car won't start!

Not sure what is going on. I can't start my car! I get battery and ACC fine. I press in the clutch then the start button and I hear a sound for 3 seconds then nothing and then it switches to ACC mode... I see 12V on the volt guage so it can't be a low battery right?

Xan 04-04-2010 02:59 PM

Try putting the fob in the slot and try again...

nogoodname 04-04-2010 03:07 PM

uummm... press the brake and the start button.

If he has a clutch he doesn't press the brake to start ...

added: unless the car is suddenly confused and thinks it is an auto...

tjlazer 04-04-2010 03:22 PM

Tried another fob, no go. I get a motorized sound for a few seconds. If I leave it there I get a buzzing sound from the engine bay.

Did a search and I guess I have a bad ECU! I'm getting the exact same thing.

http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...g-problem.html

Would installing illuminated kick panels have something to do with it? Everything was fine for a few weeks until today. But I do recall having to remove and re install a harness around the ECU area...

FuszNissan 04-04-2010 03:41 PM

Could be the crank sensors

tjlazer 04-04-2010 04:05 PM

It looks like it might be the IPDM. Looks like i'm getting it towed in tomorrow!

I believe the end result for the thread that you linked to was the IPDM and not the ECU. This could be your problem. There is also a bad problem with the steering wheel locks in the Nissan cars. The GT-R guys (myself included) received voluntary recalls to replace this part. Do you hear the steering wheel lock disengage when you press the Start button? It should sound like a single "whir" coming from the steering column. If not, then this is most likely your issue.

Steering wheel lock is working normal. I feel it release and I get a whirr sound.

So where is this IPDM located?

I had to get my car towed for the steerig wheel lock problem. Car wouldn't start.

tjlazer 04-04-2010 08:27 PM

The IPDM is located on the passenger side near the main fuse box.

In for warranty. They pay the towing too.

tjlazer 04-04-2010 09:53 PM

I found and opened up the IPDM and checked all the fuses, they were fine. Not sure so I'll leave it up to the dealer to fix. What a PITA.

no it's more like it would be stuck in it's midlife crisis and trying to relive the days when everything was easy fun, instead of just growing up and being a real car that uses knowledge and skill to do things it never could when it was just a little ole slushbox.

Without mid life crisis then older men wouldnt be jumping 20 yr olds. Gotta keep that right hand free for more skilled things like pleasing the 20 yr old.

See what you have done, you got this thread all off track.

1slow370 04-04-2010 11:15 PM

several people have had there steering wheel lock mechanism fail on them at which point the car wont let you start it. even if its stuck in the unlock position because the system is tied to your intelligent key system..

tjlazer 04-05-2010 11:34 AM

Nice. This is reassuring...

Strange huh, younger guys like older, and older guys like younger. But with either case the right hand must remain free to roam, hence the good ol AT.

NOOOOOOO say it aint so. Come on man we cant do that to our cars, it looks bad for the rest of us. We're the NON RICY Z owners here. But did it say Nismo or Nostart?

Also was that the pick up point of the drop off point? Dont look like a Nissan dealership to me.

azn370z 04-05-2010 04:42 PM

It does have nismo wheels.

That badge is where the Nismo gains its 18hp over the base.

ECU seems like it behaving correctly and is trying to start, but the voltage isn't making it to the starter. Should be a simple fix.

The last 3 pics were the drop off point, and it is a Nissan dealership just north of Tacoma, WA. It's at the back side. I guess that's why they call it Tacompton son. LOL

Nope, the "ricey" badge was my first mod actually. I only plan on doing the body kit and the cat back and CAI. Don't hate man.

tjlazer 04-05-2010 10:47 PM

The "Ghetto" looking Nissan dealer called. Looks like my "Ignition" fuse blew somehow! IPDM has been ordered and will be here tomorrow!

Why? Because they don't sell a Blue Nismo. If they did I would be all over it! Look at my Avatar. :)
