Castrol has a new synthetic out that they claim has 8x better wear protection than Mobil1. I've always used Mobil1 in the past though.

Castrol Edge

^^ I voted for that, but i usually use Castrol Syntec

I have used Mobil 1 in everything I own for the last several years. My 03 350 has 56K on it and has had Mobil 1 in it since 500 miles. Same for my Toyota X-Runner and Toyota Camry Hybrid. I used it in my 95 and 96 Impala SS's and several cars before them and have had no problems at all. BTW I changed them all at 500 or less miles.

Am I understanding yo change oil every 500 miles?
That's a big unnecessary waste of money, time&effort! Especially the money!
That's over 720 dollars for one car per year, in oil!
The oil us not dirty(unless your tracking). The proprieties haven't had a chance too work.

I've only used Amsoil in my cars. I've used both their 5W-30 oil and their manual transmission fluid (in my Civic). The Lexus gets serviced at the dealership, so I can't comment on what they use haha.

RCZ, what do you mean, it get hots too fast or has a lower temp flash point or burn rate?? I want to go with an oil that will help the car run a little cooler. I was reading through a thread were a guy was tracking a 370z and the car went into limp mode because the oil temp was too high.

I'll probably ad an oil cooler down the line, but for now just want to help it out a bit with a good synthetic.

I mean the burn rate, at least it did on my friends STI. Its good oil, temps stay cooler, but prepare to have to add more or change sooner than usual.

I think you're misunderstanding his post. He is saying that since his 03 Z hit 500 miles on the odo, he used synthetic oil. (NOT oil change every 500/miles.)

If anyone is running synthetic, there's no reason to change it before 4 to 5K miles (unless you do some SERIOUS tracking)

bboypuertoroc 02-02-2009 05:57 PM

AMSOil or Redline.

Mobil 1 here.

That Castrol Edge website is retarded... But aside from that, I'd try it after the break-in period.

Dad,

I change oil every 6000 miles and rotate tires and replace air filters at the same time. Its easy to keep track of what needs to be done that way. Sorry for the mix up.

RCZ 02-02-2009 10:45 PM

6000? I change my oil every 3,000... I drive my cars aggressively all the time though...

bboypuertoroc 02-03-2009 02:16 AM

6000 miles?! Holy hell man... 3000 should be the max.
