when i ran the car at the drag strip the hotter it got the more it slowed down .12.800 pass when to a 12.95 on the next run after i let the car cool for 45 min. When the oil hit 110c it would only go 13.2 to 13.3's.
Un belivable how it loose's power.
It runs best at 80 to 90c for oil temp.
GTM track oil cooler on its way as soon s Sam ships it to me.

Real world test on the S2000 is 0-60 5.7 average, 13.8 1/4 mile. Now, compare that to the Z's numbers and tell me how much do you really think you were going to pull on it?

Also, your assuming they were stock, how do you really know, could of had a mellow exhaust and a tune, who knows, but even a stock S2000 will give you a run for the money. Heck my Mini Cooper Turbo sounds pretty stock, but with the tune I have and the mild cat back, intake, etc. it has surprised more then a few Vette's, Mustangs, etc. putting out 200fwhp and it's only 2500lbs :-)
Damm near as quick as the 370z.

Anyway, don't feel bad, there is nothing wrong with your car, you just didn't know what you were up against

On a side note, my Z, without a doubt, runs a little slugish when the oil temp hits 220, I can definitely notice the difference in responsiveness on a hot day compared to when the temps are in the 180 range. Only fix for that is an aftermarket oil cooler, which is something I will definitely be purchasing in the future.

Dude, don't stick up for a a stock S2K in a drag race. 2 words-- NO BALLS. That's stock though.. Handling is a different story and the S2K is pretty decent after 80. Still not even close to a 370z

Sorry, but did I just read something about an "exploding cooler?". Did the cooler explode or did the hose explode/separate?

Can someone please clarify?

Thanks

It's exploding oil cooler.

Most of the failure I read came from the lines, oil cooler failure is very rare

The car is meant for running on tight twisty canyon roads where handling and composure result in a fun drive. If you want to kick *** in a street drag race, buy a Camaro or a Stang, but don't complain about the cheap low quality interior or vague handling. Although you can mod the chassis of a Camaro and get very good handling, it will never be as good as the Z on real world roads.

:iagree:

Couldnt say it any better......good post !! +1

Bump cuz I can

I didnt read through the whole thread, but sounds to me like you hit limp mode. If after 15 minutes it was just under 260, then that sounds like it to me. Doesnt it start at 260 and then get reduced more at 280?

Anyway, the highest ive gotten mine was 240 and havent noticed any power loss...

Old thread but ...

No power loss until 280, then a severe cut at 300. Prior to that I did have some minor power loss thanks to heat soaking the Stillen G3's and increasing intake temperatures, but that is greatly improved since I insulated them.

Heat soak on the G3's?? Interesting, didnt think that happened since they are CAI...

LOL. Sure the air they bring in is cold, but when the metal tubes get heated to well over 200F they become little air heaters. The stock plastic tubing is far superior in this regard as plastic is a good insulator. So you start the car up with your G3's and it feels great right after warm up, but after a few laps on the track or carving the switchbacks it starts to feel more sluggish.

I used the same product as wstar to wrap the intakes, works pretty well. You need 2 total as it is a dual intake. I didn't bother with the lacing as I didn't care about it looking pretty; zip ties and foil tape.

Still waiting for someone to cut the hood and run the intake piping outside and then back in. Now that would be sweet. Ha!
