Default A/T down shifting problem

Hi! Well, the other day, I took my car out for a "spirited" ride down an old country road that follows a valley floor. The road would go from straights that would allow 100+mph, down to tight corners that would have tires screaching at 40mph. Anyway, about 75% of the way through the 42 minute trip from one side to the other, I started noticing that the car wouldn't let me down shift from 3rd to 2nd gear, using either the paddles or the gear selector, unless I was below 3700 rpm's. I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this situation before, and if so, what did you do to fix it? My best guess... the transmission fluid may of been getting a little to hot! I was thinking a Stillen transmission cooler, but I rather hold onto the $300 if that wouldn't fix my problem... what's your $.02?

What was your oil temp? That sounds more like the engine lowered the redline due to overheating - could you exceed 3700 otherwise?

I don't remember what the oil temp was... I remember the gauge wasn't maxed out, but I'd have to go out and look at the gauge to get the approx temp... I remember the position of the needle... about 1 o'clock.

Yes, I was able to carry the car up to redline. Once I coasted a little bit and got the rpm down, it would downshift, and then let me take it at far up to redline as i wanted before I shifted up.

That means ur transmission oil is to hot and it's a fail safe for the engine. I had the same problem but I installed a transmission oil cooler and haven't had the problem again I recommend that to you as well

What brand did you get? Did you have it professionally installed, or was it pretty simple to do?

That sounds like the 260* area for oil temp, you prolly got pushed into limp mode.
