haha funny you mention that, now that i have a quaife on the way when i install it i'll be dropping the rearend and turning some aluminum ones up at work. I'm on a mission to kill wheel hop now. I'll save my drawings after im done and depending on how they turn out i may make more as they are pretty easy and i could probably make a set in two hours. If this mount never sees the light of day or i miss the buy i'll probably make a solid version of that too. maybe with a delrin bushing who knows at this point. I need to find a garage where i can work on it and get it out of storage.

Z1Performance 02-26-2010 10:24 AM

install takes about an hour on jackstands using normal hand tools...it is quite simple

phelan 02-26-2010 10:39 AM

okay so my car doesn't see the track more than a few times a year. what makes the 'race' version worthwhile over the comfort?

are there negative effects from the race version when driving around the city?

Z1Performance 02-26-2010 06:21 PM

If the car spends the majority of it's life off the track, I'd suggest the comfort unit. The only downside with the race version will be the increased chances of NVH due to how stiff it is. The comfort version will give most of the benefits that the race one does, but still keep things happy and quiet inside the cabin

Sent a test unit (comfort) to RCZ today for his independant evaluation

Since someone asked, diff mounts are no big deal to do - I just need to get my hands on a rear subframe to take the measurements (they are different from the 350Z, though not significantly). Look for those to come out in the coming months.

RCZ 02-26-2010 08:57 PM

Awesome, yeah diff mounts are pretty important too.

Thanks for sending the mount out to me, I'll get those installed and write a review for you all asap.

B1nks 02-26-2010 09:09 PM

I'm down for these transmission mounts.

i"ll be looking forward to hearing back on RCZ's review may bump it up in the budget if it's a big change. I'm sure we don't have to tell him to be totally honest about his review and give it a few days before writing it

Sorry for the stupid question...but what does "increase chances of NVH" mean?

RCZ 02-27-2010 09:58 AM

NVH is just in-car noise and vibration. Harder mount = more vibration/noise gets transferred into the car instead of dampened.

bluestyle55 02-27-2010 10:02 AM

RCZ...when do you expect to have the test mount in your hands and installed?

travisjb 02-27-2010 10:08 AM

I can test the race units... Z1, please drop me a PM if interested... next track event is mar 6-7, then another later in mar

RCZ 02-27-2010 03:56 PM

Patience, should have something for you guys by the end of the week.

Hoping for positive results.

RCZ 02-27-2010 06:21 PM

Me too, I'm sure its going to be positive, Im just hoping its noticeable.

vortrex 02-28-2010 11:52 AM

I'm in for a comfort version.

Daishi 03-01-2010 03:34 PM

yesss comfort plz

RCZ 03-03-2010 04:32 PM

OK everyone.

I will be receiving the mounts from Z1 tomorrow. Earliest I could get them installed is Saturday. So quick review sat night followed by after thoughts as I get more time with them.

It seems like a very easy install so I don't foresee any complications. Also I wanted to point out that I was reading some reviews of Z1's 350Z transmission mounts and they are apparently complete game changers. Rave and very positive reviews! More on sat!

excellent

m4a1mustang 03-03-2010 07:48 PM

Awesome, Raul. Can't wait for your review.

RCZ 03-04-2010 01:00 PM

Man, Adam could you put more tape on the box? I had to bring out the commando knife to open it LOL.

Anyway, mount is here safe and sound. Pics over on my journal in a min.

Z1Performance 03-05-2010 08:04 AM

better than getting an empty box because the mount fell out along the way :)

I'm guilty of overtaping myself. :icon18:

vortrex 03-07-2010 12:26 PM

did you install it yet?

He did... check his journal. He's waiting to hear back from Z1 before he posts his thoughts.

bluestyle55 03-07-2010 07:32 PM

RCZ...do share :excited:

kdoske 03-07-2010 07:37 PM

yes please

RCZ 03-07-2010 08:50 PM

In my Journal guys.

vortrex 03-07-2010 09:56 PM

I must be dumb, where does one find the journal?

m4a1mustang 03-07-2010 10:44 PM

It's in the interwebs.

Zat_Zuma 03-08-2010 09:55 AM

It was a well written feedback on a new product .......

http://www.the370z.com/433472-post456.html

I hope the vibrations settle over time and use.

Modshack 03-08-2010 10:25 AM

Hope they can get the durometer rating right so this can work.... Sounds like it's WAY too hard. Rescinding my vote pending further developments...:ugh2:

vortrex 03-08-2010 12:16 PM

...and that was the "comfort" version?

RCZ 03-08-2010 01:07 PM

Here's the review, just in case people dont know where to find the journals.

OK, so here's the review as promised.

Installation:

It was extremely easy. Its 6 bolts and its done. Very easy access, doesn't require any special tools, however you do need to find a way to support the transmission so it doesn't sag when you take off the mount.

This is what you are looking for under the car. Its right by where the driveshaft starts:

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/t...411024x768.jpg

Support the transmission somehow. We used this guy, but you can use whatever as long as its sturdy enough to hold up the weight:

Remove the bolts:

Stock Mount:

Side by side comparisons.

Z1 Mount on. Make sure the "arrow point" is pointing towards the back of the car:

After that, just put the bolts back in and your are done.

Thoughts:

Alright, so did it make a big difference? Absolutely. On the pro side, it made shifts much more positive. Shifting feels very consistent in every situation. It feels crisper and more exact when you put it into gear. You get this sensation like no matter what you are doing; accelerating or decelerating, the shifter is attached to something that is completely solid instead of something that has some give to it. As expected, that off-throttle jerking in low gears has been reduced. Instead of getting a sort of reverberating stop-go jerkiness that you get with the stock mount, you get this "load, unload, over" type of a feeling. Its hard to describe. Think of it this way... with the stock one it feels like the transmission is moving back and forth as it loads with the engine. With the hardened mount it feels like the whole car is a solid piece being acted on by the loading/unloading of the engine. You still feel it jerk, but it does it less and less abruptly.

Now the problem is this... and you folks knew there was a problem coming.

We know our engine and tranny are notoriously coarse as we go up in the RPMS, well guess what...you can hear and feel EVERYTHING. You can hear the synchros speeding up and slowing down when you put the clutch in and out. You can hear every little engine sound, clutch sound and chassis sound X100. Sounds like I have straight cut gears inside the car. If that wasn't bad enough, as you can imagine, huge amounts of vibration is transferred into the cabin. When I got home after the install, my whole body had that tingling sensation you get when you hold on to something tha'ts vibrating for too long. Just revving the car in neutral shakes you like a massage chair. My friend was joking that its a nice massage mod and that maybe girls would really love it.

I talked to Z1 and they said to give it a few hundred miles to let it bed in because it should get a little better. I drove around 100 miles this weekend and it has not really improved much. I am going to leave it in for the week and see if there is any improvement in NVH levels. It feels so good for shifting that I really don't want to let this one die. Please keep in mind that it is a product in development and it still needs to be altered a bit before production. I think if we made it less stiff it would get rid of a lot of the NVH, but it will also feel more like the stock one.

I think this would be excellent on a dedicated race car, but as it is right now, I don't feel the level of NVH is acceptable for a street driven car. Perhaps what we need are shifter and differential bushings + a softer version of the transmission mount. I am not happy that the side effects were so bad since shifting feels excellent. Way more composed and consistent than the stock one. Z1 said they would look into lowering the stiffness of the bushing if it's necessary. He will probably chime in and tell us what the plan is.

Daishi 03-08-2010 03:41 PM

which version did you get?

lol real comfortable i see... hah

bluestyle55 03-08-2010 05:40 PM

dammit....i had really high hopes for this. I dont think I would be able to live with a vibration that would make my arm tingly and all the reported engine/tranny noise. LOL...wonder what the race version would be like??

RCZ - thanks for testing this and doing the write up!!
