Glad you got it figured out.
I stopped using my parking brake during freezing temps unless I absolutely need it (steep hills, etc.).

The pop scared me also, i figured i either fixed it or i just cost myself alot of money

My Z is winterized now and wont see light again until spring. like you said, i decided to leave it in gear instead of the parking break in case i need to move it again and have to deal with frozen brakes.
