Default Clutch Recommendations

Hi,

I believe my CSC is about to take a dump. So I am going to be fixing that soon and will likely do the clutch and flywheel at the same time. What clutch/flywheel combos does everyone suggest? I am going with the Stillen SC in a few weeks so I need a clutch that can handle 500-600HP. However, I want to retain as close to OEM drivability and quiet as I can. Suggestions/ opinions appreciated. I'm in TX too if you have a good shop to recommend

I read about the South Bend on the Zspeed site. Seems like a decent price. Have you had this clutch? How does it drive?

i got the south bend stg 3 endurance clutch without the silent disc.... there is clutch chatter below 2K but it doesn't bother me. engagement is hard but derivable... many would pair it with the rjm clutch pedal for ease on the engagement and throw...

Contact Joe at ZSpeed. Tell him what your goals are and the type of driving you'll be doing. He will sell you the best setup for you at a great price.

I agree with the RJM Performance clutch pedal, and you might as well upgrade to their heavy duty clutch master cylinder while you're ordering from them. And when you say "fix" the CSC - you're going to go with the ZSpeed or Z1 options right? For the love of God, do not put another OEM CSC in there.

For the work, I'd recommend JTran in Houston.

I have the Southbend St3 with silent disc and to be honest on the first drive I noticed a little more pressure ( Expected more) and with the 19lb flywheel there was no noticeable chatter. To be fair I also have the RJM clutch pedal setup which could make a difference vs a stock pedal. If I had a do over I would've had the clutch installed and then I would've installed the RJM. I also used the HD CSC and my only regret is not going with an upgraded CMC which I will be getting as soon as I recover from my turbo install. ( The RJM CMC is looking like an awesome option. )

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke with the guys at ZSpeed about their clutch kits. They recommended the Southbend Stage 3 with silent option. I'm going with the 25LB solid flywheel. I like the idea of a lighter flywheel but I don't want to make a drastic change to a 17-19 LBs.. The kit comes with the HD CSC and a new master cylinder. Although I don't think CMC is upgraded.

Joe (Zspeed) installed the stage 2 with silent disk and lightweight flywheel about 1 1/2 years ago and I live it. The lightweight creates a cool warble, not to mention the increased quickness. I've probably put 20k miles on the setup with no issues.

The stage 3 comes with a new OEM master.

What kind of fluids did you guys use? Nissan OEM? motulRBF? I assume I could use the GTR hydraulic fluid? Redline for tranny? I got quotes from JMS Racing in San Antonio, Kosmic Motors in Houston and JTran motor sports in the Houston area. Any recommendations on which one is good and trustworthy?

All of them, really. Both Houston shops have taken care of me.

I'm not a fan of JMS. Had a couple of friends with mediocre experiences that turned into poor experiences when problems arose. Also, they were pretty rude the one time I was in their shop - definitely didn't get a good vibe from the few staff I encountered. That's just my though...

Heard nothing but good things about JTran

Yeah I read some bad stuff about JMS too. However, good things about the the Houston shops. Plus, I read about the Z Clinic in Austin. Good spot for the clutch for sure.

This is OS Giken, Grand Touring, twin plate with fly wheel, (soft cover) clutch. It is a top quality clutch which I purchased about 6 months ago when I got supercharged. It's firmer than OEM of course but fine for every day driving. I believe it will last very well to.

I've used Kevin at Austin Z Clinic on several occasions. He's a really good guy and very knowledgeable. I always call him on the phone to schedule any work as he sometimes keeps odd hours.
