Default p2a03

So, I went on a trip to Vermont, and in Stowe, there was a road that was RIPPED apart with insane gravel as they were doing construction. There was absolutely no way around this insane road. Mid-way through the 1/4 mile length of hell, my Service Engine Soon light comes on. I'm thinking I throw a sensor. Drive the car back to NY, light still on.

Bring to mechanic my dad has been using for 20 years, told it's an engine bay sensor, but didn't write down the code. Hooked up a reader today from a friend, and it gives me code P2A03 :detected the bank 2 sensor 1 heated oxygen sensor performance was not within acceptable limits.

I have mods on my car, including Berk cats and full exhaust (NOT test pipes). I've read so many posts saying it's due to the cats, but I've never had an issue in the 9 years I've had the car with the sensor. Mechanic said it's one sensor and is easy fix, I fear it being worse.

Any feedback suggestions?

Thanks.

Can also be the O2 sensor dying. This does happen on our vehicles.

thanks. I'll check into cleaning the MAF sensor.

See, my thing with the o2 sensor is due to the conditions it just doesn't make sense even though I know it's a 'thing'.

appreciate the help.

Cleaning the MAFs is a very simple job that only takes about 5 minutes per side. I'd go ahead and do it "just because." A screwdriver and a can of MAF cleaner are all that are required.

The sensors are sensitive to shock (never use an impact wrench to remove). If the sensor was marginal, shock from getting hit by gravel could have pushed it over the edge. But it could be something related to your tune (eg, MAFs, cats, etc) getting rattled around a little too much.

Clean your MAF sensor with CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner it is good preventative maintenance. Just be careful cleaning the MAF sensor it is delicate.

It didn't make sense on my 350z either when it happened, and it didn't make sense on my 370z when it happened, but it still happened and it was still fixed by replacing the sensor YMMV.
