AAM Competition R Line Oil Cooler - Anyone have???
 
I am curious if anyone has this currently installed or has any feedback available for it. Looks like it cools better than the air based oil coolers. Plus I have searched and found others stating that even the 34 row oil coolers can't keep up after 4-5 laps on road course.

Autocross/tracking/spirited driving.

I tried searching the forum and didn't find much as well as searching the web but couldn't find much on feedback or reviews.

I believe they just released it within the past month or so. Being that new there's not really any feedback on it yet. I've been thinking about ordering one. I do know they have a similar design that's been out for the GTR.

I have it on my 2014 370z twin turbo. At 109 F climates wither the oil temp 208 F . on the free highway withe the same wither condition at 70 mph the oil temp 224 F.

Well, water is a much better conductor of heat the oil is (oil is actually used in other applications to store heat). So it should be a much better system in the aspect of heat transfer. But the price is that it's a complicated system with additional pumps and lines, and a more complicated system will have more places to fail. In the end Oil to Air systems have been effective enough for the large majority of users here. Only a few people running very high performance engines in hot climates on the track would get use out of this as apposed to the standard oil to air.

Any TT builds using this system apart from kmsb3001 above, i couldn't really make out what he meant?

Seems strange no one is using it - seeing it solves a huge problem of not blocking your FMIC if i understand that's how it works




Now these guys say it comes with a setrab cooler but there is none in any of their or AAM's pics of a setrab cooler - and where does that go if it doesnt block off the FMIC - im confused

I have this system, although it does what it's design for my biggest issue with it is the oil pressure drop at idle or low rpm.

Edit: this system uses a laminova oil to water heat exchanger. There's no setrab cooler.

So it's an upgraded OEM type? For $900? I'd just get a bigger cooler than a 34 row. I have a 48 row machine press type and I too need more cooling but I also have a flat bottom and I don't think my air is escaping from the bay. Venting is key I believe.

The cooler core is installed at the bottom radiator hose.

I thought one of the benefits of an oil-to-water cooler was reduced warm-up time because the vehicle's coolant system is tapped into for use as the water portion of the cooler. But doesn't this counteract the cooling benefits once the car is driven hard and the coolant heats up?

Is there something I'm missing here? :confused:

Yes, the warm up time is reduce and oil is always at operating temp. Aam comp includes a lower temp thermostat for that reason.

Right, the main knock on an air to water setup is that the oil can never really be cooler than the water temps once the car is warmed up. So you're looking at ~200ish degree oil as the low.

So how is that a solution for someone who isn't getting enough cooling from a 34 row air-to-oil cooler on long, hot track days? Ambient air is always going to cool the oil better than hot coolant, no?
