Default AC Condenser - Need Help

Hey all,

Was riding around yesterday after about 45 minutes and the AC started to blow warm. It was a hot and humid day and I know the engine runs a little warm so I thought maybe it just needed to cool down. This morning AC still blowing warm. Took it to the dealer and they found a hole in the AC condenser.

Long story short after $130 diag. fee they found a hole and want $1300 to replace and install the condenser. Their theory is that some type of debris came through the front duct of the bumper and impacted the condenser causing the hole.

Is this a feasible cause? I'd rather not spend $1300 and I'm sure the dealer price is somewhat (sarcasm) inflated. Sticking with the story of an object striking the condenser, is an insurance claim a justified route? The service advisor mentioned he had seen similar cases covered by insurance. I know everyone's insurance is different, but maybe one of you had a similar experience. If not insurance I would probably look to find a replacement part myself and have it installed by someone I know or a reputable shop besides the dealer.

Car is 2010 with 25k miles on it.

Looking forward to everyone's feedback.

As an update to my original post: I filed a claim with my insurance and they're going to cover the cost of the new condenser/radiator. After reading through a lot of the posts here on alternative options for the radiator, I am going with the CSF combo with new hoses.

Interested to see what difference, if any, the new setup makes.
