Lol give the man a minute. I bet it's a pan a day if that. It's gotta be several hours plus per pan.

Currently everyone owns a 30 lb brick of aluminum!

I will have the production running some time this week.

I sure hope to get them done faster than that!!! I will be refining the programming as I go, and tomorrow Im going to overnight a couple different tools for the CNC that can speed it up. I also activated a (paid) option in my machine that allows it to accept higher feed rates for this project.

jrb55gh 06-15-2015 08:51 PM

I was just looking at the renderings of the pan and noticed that the vertical baffles have no corner radius where they meet the bottom of the pan. Are the vertical baffles solidly machined into the bottom of the pan or are they fastened in place with the socket head screws? If they are machined in place, shouldn't there be a corner radius to prevent fracturing at their base?

phunk 06-15-2015 09:03 PM

Yup its one solid piece, and nope its totally fine, no way its going to fracture.

Its very strong... probably thicker than you are imagining. Also, the baffle plate ties it all together.

cdoxp800 07-06-2015 07:54 PM

So, any up dates?

phunk 07-06-2015 09:28 PM

In the CNC, machining them!

phunk 07-07-2015 09:53 PM

While you guys are patiently waiting, I will share a couple pics I just took off my phone. Heres some showing the prototype test fit to my Z.

The purpose of this was to verify the bolt pattern before production, and to double check height versus the crossmember. The front-on picture isnt the clearest but if you look carefully you can see the crossmember is well lower than the pan.

Lastly, here is a photo from the production pieces showing the discussed and added sealant grooves and the 2 tabs for banging in a screwdriver without damaging a visible surface.

Top job man

Spooler 07-07-2015 10:18 PM

Awesome. This is going to look real good to whomever I run over.

Rusty 07-07-2015 10:54 PM

It's a shame that you can't see works of art like this under the car. Unless you park over a mirror all the time.

Yeap, it is a shame. The saying I have for this is listed above.... LOL It actually came from a good friend who was the resident VW Beetle guru in my home town. He helped me rebuild my starter one day. When we got finished he said " We need to paint it, that way if someone see's it when you run over them they will see how perty it is". Gene Brown was a good man.

You guys just dont wheelie high enough!

ENT-Z 07-12-2015 07:13 PM

Did you ever find out how much more oil this holds than the stock pan?

The exact amount is a mystery, but its estimated to be about a quart.

That's the same as the Wolf pan spacer so I won't be losing any capacity :woot:

Cruising right along on these.

At this point I need everyone to look at their name on the list in the first post. If you wanted the -10AN o-ring ports on the sides of the pan ($40), make sure that it mentions that next to your name, along with whatever fittings/reducers or plugs you prefer to be provided for the ports.

Mine is right. -6AN on the passenger side the 1/8NPT on driver.

The ports will be -10an ORB on both sides, and then adapter fittings will be used to coordinate which side uses which type

Mike 07-13-2015 09:39 PM

make mine with 2 oil return ports I guess and with plugs if you have them. Just planning ahead for when I blow this engine and replace with an LS, so it can be more desirable at resale.

Well it's been this long! What have you been doing not to blow it? Accumulator?

nismo13807 07-13-2015 11:08 PM

wooooooo cant wait!!

cdoxp800 07-14-2015 06:43 AM

Spooler 07-14-2015 06:53 AM

I'm good.

Zauskycop 07-14-2015 02:31 PM

Anodized blue is all I want on mine!

Tracy Ramsey

jwick 07-14-2015 03:09 PM

That beings up a good question. The standard color is black, right?

BGTV8 07-14-2015 03:52 PM

Mine is all good ....

Standard is raw aluminum. I can anodize a few of them no charge. If we end up with lots of guys wanting anodizing and I cant sneak them in my other batches, the anodizer might tack on an over-sized item charge. But I dont imagine we will get to that.

jwick 07-14-2015 04:55 PM

Drain plug threads going to be OEM?

phunk 07-14-2015 05:45 PM

yup

Japanjay 07-14-2015 06:48 PM

I am still wanting the to -10an ports plugged as well if possible the temp port. Also can you PM or if you still have my phone number, drop me a line so I can shoot you some more cash towards this tomorrow sometime?

GaleForce 07-14-2015 08:17 PM

I should have ordered one of these.

I think mine is listed correctly. I need -10orb to -6an adapter on the passenger side and the driver side port plugged for future use.

If I can get black anodized that would be sweet, if it becomes a hassle no big deal.

Thanks!

I think he said he was leaving one spot open earlier in the thread. I see 24 pans in the latest pic and only 22 names on the list on page 1 - so jump on it!
