There is no problem switching back and forth. I believe the myth started because when synthetic oils first came out, they caused rubber seals to shrink which caused oil leaks

 There is no problem switching back and forth. I believe the myth started because when synthetic oils first came out, they caused rubber seals to shrink which caused oil leaks in cars that had no leaks before. The manufacturers have long since reformulated the synthetics and this is no longer a problem.
