They can be resurfaced! The trick is finding a shop that has the equipment to do so. Many BMWs and VWs use dual mass flywheels, ask shops that work on those vehicles regularly. They'll be able to direct you to the right place.

The trick to resurfacing dual mass flywheels is to stop the two masses from moving while resurfacing. There are various ways to doing this.
