We've covered this several times, and it has been photographed and documented in the DIY guide that was posted. The RED PLATE that is included with the NST shifter needs to be installed FACE DOWN. If this plate is not installed in the correct way (it only fits two ways) then reverse and the outer gears will be an issue.
When installed correctly (face down / flat side up) as seen in this photo, everything is 100% good to go.  FULL DIY GUIDE: DIY: NST Short Shifter Install [PICTURE HEAVY] Install correctly and
