FairladyZ10PG 08-28-2013 11:24 AM

Thanks caralitos :)
I think anthracite looks better than black as it blends better with my color.
It almost looks factory painted.

Yes, I agree ^ Unless your wheels are black, the black handles are out of place.

There is another color which you might want to look into. Its just gunmetal spray...

Thank you! Wow, I didn't even see the Anthracite color...

I think I might try one handle in gunmetal, and another in Anthracite or Smoke or something, see how they compare...

I actually couldn't tell the difference between anthracite vs. gunmetal. :ugh2:

Yes! That dipped area part will protect your bumper from exhaust fumes and grime that shoots out. I have some photos in my album on how i did mine:tup:

thanks bro im going to check btw... How i can remove the tape and paper with out damage the plasti diped area??

NickTurnon 09-03-2013 10:18 AM

Buy the "straight edge" painters tape from Hardware Store. Try and tape off the best you can in a straight line. Its best to use the crease that the car has as your line.

Spray a few coats and on the last coat make sure you spray the edges well and get them wet again. Then pull off the tape and paper as fast as you can so it doesn't dry. Do it in the garage or in the shade so you get a few more seconds to peel without it drying..

Theres a couple vids on youtube if you don't understand completely. Trial and error sometimes

Dozier - If i could make a couple of recommendations, I would remove the plastidip on the side markers, but only the Z part. Not the ring around the emblem. Itll make it stand out much more, I promise. Especially with your wheels.

Also, check out my build thread on my headlights. They would look really good with the rest of your blacking out.

Consider using "Glossifier" for a glossy finish like your roof rather then the matte.

Dozier 10-30-2013 09:16 PM

Roof is vinyl wrap. I plan on smoking the tail lights and the inside of the headlights. I will paint the projector ring red to match the car also.

Wabbyyy 11-18-2013 10:38 PM

i tried to do this but everytime i would use the handle, the plasidip would
just start to rip off and peel. Maybe spray paint?!?!?!

Yeah, of course you can always remove the handles and spray paint them!

This is just much faster for a quick blackout

If you spray inside the handle part really well, then you shouldn't peel for a few months.

Also, be gentle when opening the handle. I've noticed it strips the dip off when you pry open the handle without the door being unlocked

What? Once you spray initially and let dry, you should be able to peel off the area around the handle so it operates smoothly.

He's talking about inside the handle, not the excess plasti dip that you have after initially spraying the handle. I've run into this problem too where after some time inside the handle starts to peel from repeated use.

I was planning to go for blacked out door handles and tails, but with the orange lip in the back, I was thinking to possibly do some other orange accents. I can't seem to imagine orange handles being too attractive, though... :icon14:

Any ideas?

NickTurnon 12-03-2013 12:13 PM

Yeah, don't really know what you are goin' for with the whole orange + black thing...

But you can always do something like this once your handles are black. Paint the little button orange as well as inside the keyhole. That would set it off a little bit..

http://s27.postimg.org/cekr8psab/images.jpg

Also, you can powdercoat your brake calipers orange. That would probably look good..

Ive also seen people make the z on the rear badge 370Z various colors. As well as the "O" in nismo.

I don't know either, lol. The car had an orange vinyl on the back when I got it. I was going to see what else I could do with it. If not I figure I could just rip off the orange vinyl and go in another direction with it. Maybe black/red.

Has anyone done white on white? Thinking about doing this with the emblems in white also

NickTurnon 12-06-2013 10:12 AM

White has been done many times - It looks great.

Awesome contrast..

That does look pretty sick. But I actually meant using white plastidip to make the handles white.

What kind of surface would be good to use as a test application? I want to see this in action and get a feel for how to properly apply the coats before I go spraying this on my car. I've never really worked with any kind of spraying application like this before.

Also would the fact that it's about 30 degrees out now cause it not to set properly?

Certainly.

Stangchang 12-14-2013 03:13 AM

Have you tried to take the plasti dip off your taillights? I noticed you said to use only 1 or 2 coats but doesn't that make it harder to take off the dip?

Yes, 1 or 2 coats of PD will be such a little Biatch to remove. However, my plan is to just take them off the car and spray them down with Goo-Gone and a few other secret removal products..

I started to peel one of them the other day while on the car, realized it was going to take some serious effort, so i stopped..

But yes, the less you spray, the harder it is to remove.

I heard wd40 somehow breaks down the plastidip you might want to give that a try.

Super Werty 12-14-2013 07:25 PM

sorry if this has been asked before but how long should you wait before removing the masking tape.

I did the rear valance thing today and while removing masking the dip came right off with the masking. Ending up taking it all off, it was a complete waste of time

Same thing happened to me the first time... You need to do 3-4 coats quickly. With 1-2 minutes between coats, On the last coat, get it as wet as you can without it running. Then pull the tape off right away. My 2nd attempt turned out perfect, smooth finish that looked like satin paint. In my profile there's a pic of my fangs...
Doing door handles & emblems are much easier. You mask off a bigger area than what you're spraying. And just peel it off the paint. Then it tears or breaks at the gaps or seams around whatever you've sprayed.

A dry micro fiber towel works pretty good.
