Yep it is super easy and the hatch works as good or better than before. With bolts the total is 2lbs 8oz so it is very worth while.

Sweet. I'm glad a lot more people are doing this with positive results!

Nice write up sir! I will be shedding this weight soon. It's prolly good for 8 or more mpg too..

Thumb up!

This mod was so easy I did it in three stages while cooking hamburgers on the grill. Unfortunately, it was to no avail. I got the hatch panel off only to discover, like luigi, I had no weight to remove :(
Thanks for the easy to follow DIY  |

Maybe since they released the TSB on the hatch not opening? |

Weight reduction/sticking hatch
We have the occasional sticking hatch and removing the weight looked like it might help the problem. I followed the excellent instructions but, guess what, no weight bolted to the lid.
Ours is the Touring model and I think (not certain) that the dealer's mechanic that installed the spoiler was clever enough to remove the weight. I did go ahead and add some washers to the springs and that has alleviated the problem. Thanks anyway, ranger carol |
There is dead weight all over the Z!
This hatch weight has been on the Previous model Z since 03! |
