So I took apart me GTR button to get a better look on what's inside.
If you look at the picture the beige "nodes" at the 11, 12, and 1 O'Clock positions are the lights that come through the lock, acc, and on position.

Does anyone know how to change out these lights and what kind of lights these are?

Anyone have a picture in a 2015 Nismo?

Mostly curious if the button matches the shade of the red circle trim on the Nismo.

Uxi 04-22-2015 08:42 PM

Heh, already did it. Guides were implying the plugs were at 2 but actually at 11 and 4. Not sure it will let me post pics since I'm new, but next post...

How much pressure does it take? I get the screw driver behind the start button. But can't get it to pop. Anymore pressure I feel will mark the center console.

Shouldn't take much pressure. I also don't recommend metal to pry at it. I use a plastic panel removal tool. Invaluable at <$10 for the set

See my previous post in this thread for where to pry :tiphat:

Gotcha. I'll wait til I pick up the plastic tools.

Good call  You can use a flathead screwdriver, but just be sure to wrap it with something to protect the dash. A small one with a terry cloth wrapped over it 2-3 times should work ok in a pinch.

Uxi 05-11-2015 06:40 PM

I just used an old expired debit card. The two points were at about 11 and 4 o'clock.

It will begin to move when you do it more than an audible click was my experience. Naturally the other side will sort of tighten but still was able to get the card in there. The harder part was figuring out where the to release the collar but it's obvious if you look at it for a minute.

It did ruin the card so don't use one you want to keep lol.

FYI, if you use those plastic tools, make sure you get nice ones. I bought a set for under $10 on Amazon and they were worthless. They just bent whenever I tried to apply any pressure. I also was worried about scratching the interior with a screwdriver (hence why I bought the plastic tools). I ended up just using a screwdriver, and it worked out just fine. If you're worried, you can just fold a piece of electrical tape around the tip.

They are not all worthless. The set I got on Amazon was on sale for $7.99 and is plenty strong. But the packaging is long gone, so I can't confirm which brand they were, unfortunately.

Here's a link to the set that I bought. It was only $4, so I wasn't expecting much. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but I don't recommend these ones.

The first pic is a touch misleading because the screwdriver is at the 1 o'clock position. When you push the screwdriver in it needs to be at the 4 o'clock position then the 11 o'clock position for the second tab. I cannot overemphasize this enough because if you pry too hard at the wrong position that would be the only way I could see breaking the bezel. I finished this up in about 10 minutes and it looks great! Repped +1 great DIY!!!

Worked fine for me! Took all of about 5 minutes.

lgarcia 07-04-2015 10:42 PM

The old credit card method worked for me, no scuff marks...

Ramage 07-05-2015 07:19 AM

Worked for me! +5 Hp also!!

adamste 07-12-2015 08:14 PM

Alternative GTR start button

That was much easier than taking the rest apart. Took 3 minutes. Thank you!

what's up with the 5 horsepower?
or is it just a red switch?

jchammond 07-14-2015 03:37 AM

no reply? i couldn't see how a GTR start button would give more power.

Uxi 07-14-2015 10:32 AM

But it's from the GTR! lulz

They're kidding. It's literally just a button.

lovemyvq 07-27-2015 01:49 PM

This method is great if you want your start button to look like wolverine removed it lol. Just tried it with plastic trim tools and there's marks all over the place. The other method is guaranteed to to wreck anything.

Ok some of it was my fault trying to find the spots that would pop the old one out. I tried where others had and it didn't pop right out. I put the trim tool in around 1 and 10 and it just popped out like it's supposed to. Guess it's different for some folks.

RDAVIS247 07-29-2015 06:25 PM

Did this on my 2016 using an old gym card, thanks for the post!

I did it this way as well, using plastic trim tools and I have no marks at all.
