(still trying to carve out time to install those plates ><' ) |
just ordered my white LEDs from the lc-led company the other day. hopefully i'll have them soon. i was definitely disappointed when i saw the factory setup so this will be my first mod to the new ride

I dont think installing those kick plates should take more than half an hour, there's a plug about 1 foot away from the kick plate that you disconnect/reconnect. |
Cjanik, you can install these in the recesses that the base model plastic ones come in right? Cause I might possibly be getting mine this weekend, and they said they have the 'exact' model im looking for on the lot but I can't remember if I told them lighted plates or not...
|
Yeah it doesnt matter if it cmes with illuminated kick plates or not. It will snap into place and fit. The downside of having a car without the illuminated kick plates is, ull need to run the wiring harness that comes with the illuminated kick plates that i send you. Its got the instructions and all parts necessary so its easy, just a little time consuming.
|
Its as time consuming as you make it... Mr. Install =)
|
what was the led for the frosty white i mean frosty light blue? im interested because im getting my kick plates from the dealer instead of getting them installed, was it hard wiring it up? i heard u can easily bend the metal and/or scratch the aluminum.....
|
The wiring is easy, you just snap in a plug into the wiring harness by the passanger kick panel, and then run the wires to the kick plates.
taking it apart is a little harder, I have 1 set thats not worth anything because i bent/scratched the aluminum and now it looks like crap. |
Got my set installed last night, it was super easy. The only slightly difficult part was getting the wire from the passenger to the driver side. The instructions are basically for a non-carpeted car (without the styrofoam too) it seems, so it was a little different than what they had described. I'll post my crappy iphone pictures and a little diy on how I did it a little later.
I initially attempted to modify the LEDs myself but ended up with a slight *oops* when separating the aluminum from the plastic. The soldering and such is easy for me, but I prefer to have perfect parts in a new car rather than ones with even slight issues. I later ordered a set from Cjanik and got them installed and they look great. |

if you're in need I'll host them on my ftp. pretty much unlimited bandwidth. just send me a pm.
|
^^ will do.
been in a constant battle with hotlinkfiles.com they forgot to "update" my account to my new bandwidth and settings, and I guess I pissed them off so they deleted my account and refunded my money. been a few weeks, cant get them to reinstate. I never asked to have anything deleted or refunded. :( |

I started working on the swap myself and made a little "oops" with the aluminum. |
I'm looking to replace my lighted door jambs as I dented the driver side panel. I'd end up doing red

Images are back up, BIG THANK YOU TO VIPOR!!!!

updated with some other colors, had a lot of people asking what certain colors look like before purchasing the LED's for their DIY.
oh yeah, and here's a picture of mine, same color as VIPOR's. http://www.the370z.com/members/cjani...ates-my-pg.jpg |
Great write up and pictures! Props!

Do the illuminated kick plates work only for the 370z
I own a 06 350z and I really liked the illuminated kick plates you have for the 370z. Can they be installed for the 350z?
|
^^ probably not, If you can get ahold of some 370z plastic kickplates (cheap ones) and see if they fit, your car then you can confirm that, but I doubt its the same.
|
^^ on top of that, the wiring is probably different
|
it's just power and ground. wire it to the dome light.
|
Hi Cjanik, I'm thinking on tackling this DIY that you were so gracious to write up. Would size 2.0 x 1.25 x 0.8mm work? Specifically: Super Blue 0805 Surface Mount LEDs UT-672NB. I know you stated it should be around 1mm but I wanted to double check in respect of LxWxH.
Thank you in advance! |
Yes that size will work. I prefer working with those 0805 LED's because they are bigger and easier to work with and still fit.
|
Cjanik, I just found out a dealer here has the Z I want, but it wont have door sills. It's been a while since we talked about this, but you Can swap in illuminated ones where the non-illuminated ones are correct? And if so, it's not THAT labor intensive right? Cause if so, it comes in next month and then we can look at my drivin up there for an install maybe?
How much would a set of Illuminated sills set me back, and then how much would you need for the LED's + the install itself. Both $$$ and time wise? |
Easy to swap, there's a harness that goes in-line with a plug into the BCM in the passenger kick. Run a small wire harness from there to each door sill. Done.

~140$ from the dealer. I think CJ was doing them for 200$ or so if he bought them. Don't know how his stock is anymore.
http://www.courtesyparts.com/nissan-...714_9085_9091& I paid 140 + tax from the dealer while the financing guy was finalizing my paperwork. |
Hmm... Cjanik, is that price still good? 200 for parts + labor? There is time if you would need to order them.
|
Yeah, ive been buying them off ebay, cheapest source I could find because of the free shipping.
west covina nissan in CA, 143 shipped. 370Z GENUINE NISSAN FAIRLADY Z34 ILLUMINATED KICK PLATE : eBay Motors (item 160408556716 end time Mar-28-10 15:19:53 PDT) Also, yes your plastic kickplates pop off, and these illuminated ones pop in their place. no tools are necessary if you use your fingernails to pop it off. the kit you buy for 143 includes the wiring harness and its all plug and play. tells you exactly where to plug it in and run the wires. I'd rate it a 2 out of 10 in terms of how hard to install. send me a PM and we'll talk. |
nyce!

New color!
1 Attachment(s)
I just installed it yesterday. Cjanik made a half white half blue and this color is so crazy from one angle its white opposite angle it turns blue and if you look at it from the top it looks like and as Cjanik quoted "frost blue".
I love it! |
That looks sweet! Too bad he's not doing them anymore for a while... :crying:
