The steering lock fault happened to me yesterday, got recovered to Nissan today and they reckon it will be about £1300 (yes £'s not $'s) to fit.

Came across this thread whilst crying over my breakfast and have logged a case with Nissan Uk to see if they will honour the recall as it appears Nissan USA are

Will keep you posted

ps - Hi to everyone, this my 1st (not including welcome message) post on the forum

Probably not as I did not on my other Z, since it was already replaced under warranty. This one came in for the red Z that has not failed yet.

Took my vert in for service with less then 10k on it on Wednesday, dealer went ahead replaced the lock while they had it there. Didn't receive any letter but they should have done so a few years back!

my fused was pulled (thanks for the info BTW) so I declined to have the fix when I took my car in for head gasket replacement today. think i'll call them and have it done after all.

my adviser said that Nissan would be reimbursing people who paid for this out of pocket and that they would have to fill out some form.

Had mine replaced 2 days ago under the recall and guess what, it failed tonight and I'm stranded!

Trying to search for quick fix solutions, going back to dealer tomorrow for another replacement and a fuse pull.

Only have had my Z 2 weeks ago and this is the first problem with the lock after a recall!

Maybe your dealer replaced it with the one taken off from another recalled Z.

Sorry to hear. Unless they completely disable the system it will most likely fail again.

Did any of you have power when you faced this issue ?

I have none, no lights, radio, windows or door locks . No flashing intelligent key sign either. Completely dead .

Will try jumping it in the morning. Was running fine all day and the voltmeter had a high reading .

That's not an ESCL/SLU problem. The dash lights will work but the ignition will not go to ACC or ON if it's the steering lock. Sounds like a battery problem or parasitic drain.

I will get the battery checked out today.

After beating the crap out of the steering wheel last night, I went out this morning to try to jump it if it was a battery issue. Prior to jumping it, I tried to start it one last time and it started like nothing happened...the clock and radio reset though.

Drove it around for a while, pulled into the garage and yanked the SLU fuse to be safe.

Has started and been fine since, will still get battery check for peace of mind.

Thanks!

Is there any chance that I could get reimbursed by Nissan, my steering wheel lock messed up but it wasn't under warranty and I had to pay out of pocket? It would be great if i could get my money back!
