Fantastic DIY!

I am about to change the oil on a '14 Touring Sport that my wife and I purchased just a few days ago and I have just two questions.

1. In the photo below, does the red arrow point to the front, center jacking point?

2. If it is even possible with the sport's front spoiler, how difficult is it to get a long, low-profile jack onto that front lift point, and are there any means (angles of view) to make the placing of the jack on that point easier?

Thanks.

JARblue 04-22-2016 09:15 AM

1. Yup

2. I just drive one front wheel up onto a short piece of 2x12 laid flat to get that little bit of extra clearance I need to reach the front jack point. Other floor jacks may need a little more clearance or not as much. I typically kiss the front chin spoiler with the jack handle on the first few pumps, but I just make sure not to hit it too hard or make it flex too much.

So that's the front jack point. I've been kinda wondering about this myself.

What's up guys.. I'm about to do my first oil change (had one before I bought it CPO)..
Are we still doing Red Line 5W30 (6 quarts) and Purolator PureONE PL14610 oil filter?

Or is somebody using something else that might be better?

Thanks in advance:tup:

I don't know if I would call it a preference, but I always use Mobil 1 synthetic and a K&N Filter.

barncobob 06-25-2016 08:14 PM

great choices...Im using the Purolator PSL 14610,,its an upgrade from PL, supposed to be for synthetic oils,,no problems yet...none of the major parts places have it but I found it at KMART of all places $8.95.

I was using Red Line and am switching to Mobil 1 on my next change.

Is this the one you recommend?

Doubt it. Just get the regular 5W-30. Not High Mileage. Not Extended Performance.

I picked up 5 qts from Wally World today for $22 :D

Use this:

https://www.amazon.com/Mobil-120764-...ds=mobil1+5+30

and this:

https://www.amazon.com/HP-1010-Perfo...ords=K%26n+gtr

This oil filter is designed to fit the GTR but also fits the 370 and is longer than the one specified for the 370.

Awesome, thanks for the links. You never had a leaking problem with this particular K&N oil filter? Just asking cause under the reviews it seemed to be prevalent

I have been using K&N filters on numerous cars for more than 25 years and never had a problem. I abuse my cars also.

By the way -- do not forget to replace the crush washer on the drain plug.

TBatt 06-27-2016 05:31 PM

I use Mobil 0-40 and a Mobil filter. The 0-40 is a pure ester based oil. At least that what I was told. YMMV.

You do not have to remove the entire belly pan. Just take out the four bolts at the REAR of the belly pan. Take a bundgy cord and hook one of the belly pan screws holes and bend the panel of the belly pan forward (fold it) hook the other end of the bundgy cord to the front of the car. The pan was made to do this so you won't hurt a thing. Try it, it makes for a quick oil change.

The flat side goes against the oil pan.

Do not over-tighten.

Is this the side you consider flat? It's the side I put to the pan.

Yes. Look carefully at the washer. One side is flat and the other s the part that gets crushed. Orient the washer with the flat side against the oil pan

BoneZ 06-27-2016 06:29 PM

I always considered the one on the left to be the oil pan surface and the one on the right has that little lifted cut to help grab the threads on the bolt.

Can anyone recommend a good source for these? My local dealer sucks.

Never mind, just found them on Amazon. 50 for $11.99. Cheap!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Jsolo 06-28-2016 10:59 AM

50 should last you for like 200K miles!

barncobob 06-28-2016 12:06 PM

id hold off on buying the matching oil filters:bowrofl:

If I can find a deal on oil filters like I did for the crush washers I might just buy 50.The washers come out at $0.24 each, an equivalent deal on oil filters would be like $1.00 each.

How many parts in the motor are actually made with magnetic metals?
