I have tried to get the shift knob off doing as I have seen you guys say that you were able to do in your threads. I purchased a wrench with the rubber and all the knob did was turn and turn and turn but never came off.
![]() ![]() I was sweating like James Brown....but could never get it off. What am I doing wrong? I have read were people have taken them off with no tools....how did they do it? I need any help that you can provide. I bought this very nice shift knob right after I got the car but I can't get the old one off. I am afraid of messing up something too so I'm trying to be careful. ![]() Thank you for any help that you can provide.... One more thing...how are you guys with cloth seats doing? I am very careful with my car but I notice on my door and handle that it gets very dirty fast. Are you having that issue? And I'm not a dirty person.... ![]() Thank you |

My knob take 3 good turn before it came loose. I had a towel over the knob then use the strap wrench to get a good hold then use a channel lock on top of the strap wrench..2 people turning at the same time...takes alot of work ma friend (^_^) after 3 good turn to the left..it should be loose..

I seriously don't get what the problem is, I literally took mine off by hand within a time span of about one minute. It's not rocket surgery, just keep turning it, it will come off eventually.

My dealer had said to hold onto the shifter itself and then unscrew the knob so i did.
Just pulled up the shift boot cover, placed a set of rubber griped locking pliers around the shifter shaft. Then unscrewed the shift knob by hand. Some are tighter i guess? idk. Very easy.

Sorry to hijack your thread, OP, but you gotta meet Triples:
![]() Anyhoo... I just took a vice grip to my shift knob and tore it off. Then I called Fontana for a replacement and found out it they are $115.
