got this mounted and installed today. pretty excited about it. Powers on, but unfortunately my thermostatic plate failed when first starting up the new oil cooler yesterday and needs to be replaced. Cant read pressure yet but at least it looks all red and spiffy!

Hey spearfish, thanks for the writeup, just did this and or helped a lot! One question though, which fuse did you tap? Having trouble with the add a circuit don't seem to he getting power. Thanks!
|
Glad this is helping you guys out. I tapped the fuse for the center console 12V lighter. I think it was 15A fuse.
|
Thanks! Tapped the same one, works great now

Hey spearfish nice diy, i used this to mount the same oil pressure gauge last week. Thought i'd help others with the hardest method to wire. You can connect the red (constant 12v) to the yellow wire (splicing) and the grey to the orange illumination wire (splicing) on the main radio harness. Still route the negative and pink (switched 12v) to the fuse box to prevent feedback. How you like mine mounted? I just moved the starter button.

Nicely done! Looks good.

Just trying to sort through all this thread size mess so I can get busy on my own gauge...
On the stock sensor threads, most sources seem to say we'd have BSPT, but the adapters you list seem to use BSPT on the engine side and BSPP on the sender side (or in general, you seem to be using BSPT male threads and BSPP female threads)? Are the two compatible in that direction or something? The originals are both 1/8 BSPT right? |
Well, and pages 9/10 of this thread: http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...plosion-9.html seem to indicate we're actually 1/8" NPT unlike traditional nissan fittings? Color me confused.
|
Hmm.. could explain why mine wanted some real force to thread into the stock hole. It certainly isn't coming out though and no leaks so I'm thinking I'm just gonna leave it alone.
|
Well I ordered all 1/8 NPT stuff, we'll see how things look in person when I try to put this together during an oil change in a week and a half or so, assuming everything arrives on time.

At a 1/8th size the two are so close to each other that it is really difficult to tell the difference. Interested to see what you find out. |
My car ended up being BSPT, and I've posted up the writeup on the sensor part of it here: http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...ml#post1391436. Just part numbers and pics and tips, not a full DIY, since there's already a good one here :)

Pressure Gauge Install
First of all - thanks for all the DIY write-ups on this forum- I wanted to add my 2 cents on where i installed my Oil Pressure Gauge.
I wanted to keep my cubby door so i decided to install the gauge on the door. The door consist of 2 parts, the backing and a leather wrapped peice which can be removed by unscrewing a few small screws. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...z/IMAG0557.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...z/IMAG0553.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...z/IMAG0554.jpg |

Yeah my own install I ended up deciding mine was BSPT, or at least BSPT was a better match than NPT was. There was someone else, I forget who, who measured theirs and claimed theirs was definitely NPT, though. It may vary :(
