Default Shift knob installation? Shift knob recommendations?

Hey guys I have a 6mt and I'm thinking about changing the shift knob to make the car look a little different. My questions are can I just unscrew the stock knob and screw the new one on? And what shift knob do you guys recommend? I kinda like the nismo carbon fiber shift knob or the nismo titanium shift knob. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

OEM shift knob removal (SEARCHED)

click link for steps on how to remove, but he makes it seem easier said than done lol. I've been trying for months but still can't get it off. Guess I need to eat more spinach.

It's a real bitch to get the OEM knob off. Make sure you've got a strap wrench and locking pliers. Be prepared to swear at it for a while. The OEM knob may not survive the process.

my car used so much loctite i broke 2 strap wrenches and still didn't come off so i took an oil filter wrench to it. the knob was already coming apart from the strap wrenches so i didn't care at that point other than to remove the damn thing.

Pineapples, I'm leaving the stock shift knob. I don't wanna be in mid twist and be like "Damn. Should've just left it on."

Just my experience - I used a strap wrench on mine and came off without too much fight

Ha don't give up, the links that I posted are obviously just one way to go about this process. I wouldn't use vice grips on mine so just listen to other people's tips and tricks. Worst case scenario swap the knob back, I say keep going at it

I've always liked the Nismo titanium shift knob. I have it on my 350Z and I'll more than likely get another one for the 370Z.

There's nothing wrong with using vice grips on the shifter. Wrap the shaft in some electrical tape. You dont want to be twisting the shifter too much. You need to keep the shifter still while you work the knob off.

^^ True. As long as the knob is well protected, you should be fine. Though, I wouldn't use vice grips, maybe some regular adjustable pliers.

They need to lock, unless you want to struggle with both the pliers and strap wrench. It's hard enough to break the thread locker without making it harder than it has to be. I still don't know why Nissan would use any thread locker at all on a shift knob.

I used the rubber strap wrench identical to the one the OP used in the link I posted.

Stupid thing can't even grip the knob. Keeps slipping off so I gave up...for now

I taped a rag tightly around the knob to give the strap wrench enough traction.
