Thanks I'll give that a try. If that doesn't work, is this the one I should be using.http://www.parts-express.com/47-ohm-...0-pcs--002-4.7

forget radioshack. Just get your resistors from DigiKey Electronics - Electronic Components Distributor

SouthArk370Z 07-16-2015 10:02 PM

If you have problems finding a resistor, you might want to consider some Redneck Engineering. Find a 1/2 W (or larger) potentiometer, adjust to 4.7 ohms (with a good ohmmeter or by trial and error), then lock in the setting with some fingernail polish or similar. Not the best solution but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Edit: You might have better luck finding a relatively high wattage resistor in a "chassis mount" package. 4.7 ohms is the important part; can't have too many watts. Grab a 100W resistor if you can get it cheap. ;)

I was thinking about trying this on the passenger seat with the weight sensor

P.S. if anybody needs the correct resistor i can send you one.

I have extras sitting in my garage from my Bride install.

The two I ordered came today, If they don't work I'll take you up on your very generous offer.:tiphat:Thanks

All done, easy peasy! I have a few extra resistors also if anyone needs.

Usually do, I'll head over there in a bit.

Anybody ever find a work around to not use the passenger weight sensor and tearing up an oem seat?

Would love an answer to this as well. The potentiometer idea should work. Tap the plug and turn the dial until the light goes out?

VDC_OFF 07-25-2015 09:30 PM

been driving a while with my airbag light on. I have an aftermarket driverseat and i did this mod with the correct resistor. Ive turned the airbag light off but in a month or two it pops back on. Tired of resetting it

How hard is it to just cut the wire going to the light on the dashboard? Or is it possible to just zip tie the weight sensor upside down under the seat? Like to the seat bracket?

tonythetiger 11-16-2015 04:58 PM

would anybody like to send me a few resistors??

tonythetiger 12-03-2015 08:46 PM

thanks again for this DIY, no more annoying flashing airbag signal!!

Does this work on all years?

@NT 12-30-2015 02:55 PM

I put some bucket seats in and I'm trying to get rid of the flashing airbag light on the gauge cluster. Will the resistor in the airbag harness remove that light after the reset? Or is it mandatory to put the weight sensor in?

My seats have no removable cushions, so I have no where to put it...

I'm not too concerned about the passenger air bag function right now, I just want the flashing gauge cluster light off.

gomer_110 12-30-2015 08:48 PM

weight sensor is mandatory. You can always just roll up the weight sensor and set it behind the seat.

@NT 12-31-2015 12:30 PM

Thanks. Does anyone have any tips on removing the sensor? I can't seem to find a tutorial.

I still cant get the passenger seat air bag to work
I bought a weight sensor and installed it in the Sparco seat
Unlike the Bride tho ,these seats cant be taken apart so to actually get the sensor to read the weight is tricky/hard

Our buddy club seats don't have any removal padding. I just placed the weight sensor under the seat, plugged it in, made my resistors, plugged them in, did the reset procedure and everything worked. So far my passenger air bag light has stayed off too.

Thanks OP! + Rep for you!

Maxima airbag light

I am going to try this procedure to stop my 2005 Maxima airbag light from flashing when I installed Recaros. The 350z required 2.2 ohm resistors to turn off the light and it has no occupancy sensor. I tried 2.2 ohm resistors in the Maxima and it did not work. I will try 4.7 ohm resistors. Also, I have an airbag module under the drivers seat. I plugged it in to the car after removing it from the original seat but I still get the same error code for it . I have 4 airbag error codes...both seat airbags (hopefully fixed with 4.7 ohm resistors), the occupancy sensor, and the air bag module.

Two 2.2 ohm resistors in series yields 4.4 ohms. Might be close enough to work. Worth a try.

Seat Sensor

I need a seat sensor for a 2008 Inifiniti G Sedan, mine seems to have failed. I'm assuming these are fairly interchangeable. Has anyone found a source where you can buy them? Doesn't seem to be a way to use a by-pass chip for the pressure sensor. Any help would be great!

dudkas 04-23-2016 03:05 PM

Will this mod turn out the passenger air bag light above the mirror or only the fault light in the dash? Also, with this mod does the passenger airbag still work or does it only turn the light out?

Zauskycop 04-28-2016 08:25 PM

So, sorta digging this up from the past, we came up with an "inventive" solution to being able to put your stock seat back in if you change back. We only put our racing seat (Sparco Pro 2000) in for the one week of the year of One Lap of America. So I needed to be able to put the seat back in, and not have to order a new wiring harness for the plug only. So we came up with, what seems to be, a great solution.

I removed the plug from the seat and clipped it (two wires) about 2 inches up. On the wires remaining on the seat I put two female crimp on plugs. We wired the resistor with two inches of wire and on the loose ends put 2 female crimp on plugs. Then on the loose plug we put two crimp on MALE plugs. Now that plug can be switched between the resistor, or the seat, depending on its need!

Wasn't trying to start a argument just trying to point out a nuance of doing this DIY.

I studied electronics to work on my guitar amps. For the record you can't measure electrical components (capacitors, resistors) while they are attached in circuit. You have to remove them and measure them individually. You will never get a correct reading while the component is soldered in place in the circuit. It's a pain but that's the way it is.

So can anyone clarify my issue. I first tried with 4.7m ohm with 5% and 1/2 watt. Then switched to 1/4 watt as the link in the post to vectorsurplus.com. Then I realized I needed the weight sensor to make this entire thing work so tore up my seat to get it. Now though it still wont go away. Does anyone with 1/4 watt resistor have this working or must it be 1/2 watt?

You have the wrong resistors. You need 4.7 ohm resistors. The 4.7 Mohm resistors you have won't work.

CJBinder 08-02-2016 08:51 PM

Ok but does 1/2 watt vs 1/4 watt matter. The initial post state 1/2 but the link posted has 1/4.

For everyone elses information. The color code I believe is Yellow, Violet, Gold Gold for the proper resistor. Third order of resistors a charm!

As long as the resistor rating is equal to or greater than the called-for value, you are OK. Ie, if a 1/4W resistor is specified, a 1/2W (or even a 10W) will do the job. The wattage rating is just how much power the resistor can safely dissipate.

There are MANY resistor color code charts on the Intertubes but this usually works for me - Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls But Violet Gave Willingly

Best mnemonic device I've ever seen for resistor color codes.

The way I learned it (back in the '60s), the first word was the same as the color it represents. I've been told that is not very PC nowadays. ;)

Thought about the weight sensor. What about removing it, rolling it around a steel tube or something like that, and using zip ties to hold it around the tube and to apply the 80lbs of pressure needed, then let it hang out behind the seat? Would that work in theory?

hmmmmmm Sounds like it would be worth a try - it's non-destructive, cheap, and easy. IIRC, the sensor looks for X number of "bubble" switches to be made before issuing an OK, so it may take many zip ties.

I have MANY zip ties. I'll give this a shot when I install my seats
