Are you OCD about a clean Z?

I am just checking to see how many folks are a little over the top on a clean Z car? I have been known to be a little over the top. LOL

Have you ever washed your car in the rain?
Yes, I have several times.

Have you ask your wife/girlfriend to beat their feet off before getting in?
Yeap, I am guilty as charged.

Have your girlfriends ever had a name for you that pertains to your clean
issues?

Yes, My nickname was Mr. Clean for a while and I am not bald. :)

Post up some of the crazy things that you have done due to your cleanliness issues. It's all in good fun.

MagmaRed370z 07-19-2014 11:50 PM

I used to be like that in my 350z but, I really don't have the time to wash and detail the 370z every weekend like I used to.

My cars dirty as hell cause I'm not washing it till I buff the paint out. So no I'm not to ocd about mine.

brandonb370 07-20-2014 12:47 AM

Mine is pearl white so it gets dirty quite easy. Rains everyday here in FL. Spend atleast three hours a week on my day off to wash and clean it. Always tell EVERYONE to watch their feet. They also make door handles for a reason. Don't even think about shutting my door with the glass. :) List goes on and on.

nomodsjk 07-20-2014 01:04 AM

The wife woke up at 3am calling me to ask where the "f" are you and what the "f" are you doing... My reply... Honey I'm down stairs cleaning my car. Lol. I have cleaned my car in the rain. I clean it every day. Sometimes twice a day. I bought over 300$ worth of cleaning supplies the first week I had the car. You won't find so much as a water spot or dust not even in the engine bay. It's called pride of ownership! When you have the kind of money we spend on our cars invested it's a must. Hey its a Z thing some people just don't get it!

LOL, I was waxing mine until 3:00am the Saturday I got it. I was out of buffing compound to polish it. I will get to that later. I have had to park some of my craziness so folks can deal with me.....

I had a black Camry before my PW z. Black is a little worse to keep clean. I feel your struggle.

Last time I washed my Z with a hose was 3-4yrs ago after doing tire comparisons in the rain.

The trick is not to get the car dirty and qd often.

milko002 07-20-2014 04:30 PM

I wash my Z every other day. My wife has to come into the garage sometimes at 3 am when I using my orbital buffer to tell me to shut the F*** up and go to sleep. I look at her a say WHAT ? I cant hear you as I'm still buffing away. But I can read her lips . Also, my wife has to put her purse in the trunk so the interior wont get scuffed or scratched up. No eating or drinking in the car. She cant roll down the window because I don't want dust getting in . I have mats on top of my mats. I have a paint brush in my glove box so I can get the dust out of certain areas.

I know. I really need help.

You and me both sir, i too am guilty of purse in the trunk, no eating/drinking, and no rolling down windows in the Z.

Never thought about the paint brush though... :stirthepot:

there's only room for one car in the garage and it's mine. I don't want it to get scratched. And as you can see I have my cleaning cart right next door.

I enjoy cleaning my car. I can spend mindless hours with a microfiber and wax, drink a microbrew or two, crank up the tunes in the garage, and really enjoy it. I would answer yes to all the OP questions except the tapping feet one. I've got weathertechs so I don't mind dirty feet.

Gadgetech 07-21-2014 08:19 AM

Well I thought I was OCD but some of you are more so than I. I have weathertechs inside and really avoid driving in the rain. The car does get a brief rain shower at work and we are near the interstate so there's tons of dirt in the air. I'm afraid of scratching the paint by just using a QD so I just wash often with a hose.

boarderbob 07-21-2014 08:31 AM

For the OP:
  1. Yes, rain just helps wash the soap off faster.
  2. I don't have to ask at this point.
  3. She's never given me any nicknames, but that's likely because she likes riding in a clean car.
My wife, family, and friends all know drinks and food are a "no-go" in my Z. As for washing; just about every weekend. Wax as necessary. I keep a microfiber in the car to wipe off dust. Fortunately I park in a garage at work so it avoids the Florida sun most of the year.

Amj2020 07-21-2014 11:20 AM

I was at work and on my lunch I was using quick detailer on my car with a lovely soft microfiber just to make sure it wasn't bothered being out of its garage (normally I wouldn't take it out at all but I was feeling crazy). A doctor I work with comes out and sees me he goes.

Doctor: What are you doing?
Me: Using my free time to enjoy my car
Doctor: Its clean already why do you need to keep cleaning it
Me: I don't know, I am compelled to do this
Doctor: Well in that case let me diagnose you as a "Carcissist"

Needless to say he is right...:ughdance:

Davey 07-21-2014 11:46 AM

I am not. My Z is clean occasionally and then it gets dirty, but I buy a car to drive it, not obsess over every miniscule bit of dust on it.

enkei2k 07-21-2014 12:29 PM

used to be the first few months of ownership. Now it's dirty as hell and I don't care anymore, unless I'm driving to meet up with some friends or to a meet; then I'll clean it up a bit, but it's usually nothing more than just QD

This thread is so me. Spent almost $250 on Zaino products and other stuff and 6hrs straight of all hand washing/waxing. Was up till 3am myself. Now I was her once every 2/3 weeks and apply a new layer of detailing spray and sealant. I also touch up in between washes with my California duster. Luckily the interior is so small so that's a piece of cake to maintain with a microfiber.

i get the nylon coated sponge out every evening to get the bugs off the front end, windshield and side mirrors...then i use a california duster...then i rub the whole car down with my microfiber towel...only have to give zeus a good hand-washing about twice/month...and that's due to the brake dust build-up on the wheels...ocd as charged when it comes to my z

I keep a wet MF towel inside a ziplock bag in my Z, just in case birds come-a-pooping my way, just wring on top of the poop and then wipe off with caution :happydance:

Gadgetech 07-21-2014 09:27 PM

This is the best product I've found that removes bugs and DOES NOT scratch the paint. Not sure how it doesn't scratch b/c it's pretty rough/hard but it doesn't and I've used them on plenty of cars. Obviously wash the area first before using.

Safe Scrub Bug & Tar Pad can be used on glass, chrome, vinyl, fiberglass, paint and clearcoats—100% safe when used with soapy water.

Post up some of the crazy things that you have done due to your cleanliness issues. It's all in good fun.

1. I don't understand the rain thing. That just seems like a waste of time to me. Being my DD, I drive the Z in the rain, but I don't always have the time to QD afterward :(

2. I replaced my mats with some rubber ones that protect the carpet. I can't think of a time my passenger has ever had excessively dirty shoes.

3. No nicknames that I can think of. However, I am a 2nd generation dishwashing award winner :ugh:

I don't have the time to be over the top with cleaning a daily driven Z. However, I have learned a ridiculous amount about detailing cars (many thanks, Junkman!), and I have purchased hundreds of $$$ worth of detailing products since purchasing the Z. I have 2-step hand polished almost every panel on the vehicle more than once and thoroughly enjoyed it. My goal is to keep the car where I can clean her up without too much effort.

Last weekend, I removed and cleaned my throttle bodies. It had been a while since I did a real engine detail, so I removed, cleaned, and dressed every piece of trim and hose in the engine bay. I helped two other forum members clean their TBs as well, and I have to say, it was satisfying to see my clean engine bay in comparison to theirs (one with more miles and one with fewer miles). It would have taken me far longer to clean my engine bay if I let it get that dirty.

kenchan 07-23-2014 02:25 PM

on my dd i use polymer sealant and waterless wash to clean just the panels that get dirty.
and run gunmetal wheels so i only dress the tires.

rain is enough to wash off most of the dust, if not just blast it with hose water and blow dry.

to normal people my car is 'always spotless.' so that's good enough for me. rather spend my time on other things.

Spooler 08-12-2014 11:46 PM

My car is nasty. The wonderful afternoon thunder showers have set in. It just might be a wash in the rain weekend.

RyanWest 08-13-2014 09:27 PM

My Z is a garage queen. When it gets a little dust on it, I use Quick Detailer from Stay Fresh Car Care.

I really need to invest in a car cover! anyone suggestions?
