Detailer buffed a part of the headlight OEM film, need to restore.

Hey guys,

A detailer was buffing my car and went onto the headlight and seems to have buffed through some sort of OEM top film.

At this point I think my best bet is to have a professional sand them down to remove the rest of the film, polish them to bring them back to the original look and cover them with 3+ year ceramic coating. Any other suggestions?

I would go back to the detailer ASAP and confront them with the damage. They broke it they fix it.

Almost looks like maybe some polish got in a scratch or fingernail mark...possibly from an X-GF

you can try one of those headlight restore kits from the auto parts stores. Since the covers are still in good condition, you maybe able to reseal them with the clear sealant from the kits.

The kits are cheap, probably from $10 to $20.

I would not do this.

I instead would use this.

Thanks for the info guys. No ex's here lol. He buffed it off while doing paint correction for ceramic coating. So you are saying buff off that layer or film/ clearcoat (factory) on the whole headlight and re-polish?

For those who are still looking for an answer. IMO, the best way is to cover it with PPF aka clear bra. The exposed portion is prone to degradation by UV light and PPF has an anti-UV coating. The added bonus is protection against chipping from road debris and a nice, fresh look to the headlights.

For reference, a very good friend of mine who's a PPF installer has this type of service called headlight reconditioning and he charges $150 to wet sand, polish, and install PPF on two headlights.
