For those who are still looking for an answer. IMO, the best way is to cover it with PPF aka clear bra. The exposed portion is prone to degradation by UV light and PPF has an anti-UV coating. The added bonus is protection against chipping from road debris and a nice, fresh look to the headlights.

For reference, a very good friend of mine who's a PPF installer has this type of service called headlight reconditioning and he charges $150 to wet sand, polish, and install PPF on two headlights.
