Default RestyleIt in Toronto?

hey have any of you guys ever come across this place in the GTA? or maybe even know someone who's had work done?

my buddy was thinking of repainting his car but I'm telling him to consider vinyl wraps. they're so sick! I'm gonna check out the place with him this weekend and see what kind of pricing quote they give us. and ask how much for the 370. will let you guys know in case anyone cares

check out this wrap they did! and I thought "my" blue was awesome/shiny!

weird.. the site works for me. I'll just paste some pics! sooooo sick!

haha if you guys do a group buy.. then all 6/7 Z's in the GTA will have matte wrap

we can all start a new trend!

I'm gonna ask them how much they charge to apply it for you though. are you planning on putting it on yourself? do you have the skillz? I added a few small sections of clear bra to my car and the flat areas were fine but the curves are really tough without a lot of experience.

I listened to an auto industry report the other day and they said that in the not to distant future, maybe 5 years or so, cars would come from the factory without paint. Your dealer would apply this type of film in the colour of your choice. Paint would be a thing of the past for the most part. Curious as to how durable this film is and how easy repairs would be for minor scratches. Do you need to wax/polish this stuff?

I don't see them going to a wrap for everything. I do contract work for auto industry and can safely say that with the money Toyota and Honda are putting into their paint lines, that they will not be going this way.

Iirc wraps only need to be washed no polish or wax.

Okay so I went there today. The place itself is pretty small.. only like a 1 garage area. I talked to the guy that owns the place and he was cool and quite informative.

My buddy is getting his Mitsubishi wrapped and they price it according to approximate vehicle size. For his Lancer, it's going to cost around $2800.

They have a huge collection of colour choices, with matte and gloss being roughly the same price for materials (but chrome requires multiple layers apparently and the vinyl itself is of course more expensive) so there's a difference of between $100 to like $600 depending on the type you choose. They even mix colour combination layers for you if you want a more custom colour (for instance my buddy wants to have a pearlish white/blue bottom layer with a clear red glossy top layer, which looked sweet from the quick sample we saw today).

It was a pretty small place but the quality of work being done seemed really good to me. They did a bunch of cars for import fest that just happened here in Toronto, and it turns out they wrapped the Vossen 370z that I just saw a youtube video of a week ago! I was pretty impressed hehe

Amuse Nissan 370z on 20" Vossen VVS-CV2 Concave Wheels / Rims - YouTube

I asked, and to wrap our 370 it would cost about $2500. I was caressing some guy's blue BMW that was being wrapped in matte orange and it was sick! Down the road when I feel like a colour change I'm quite certain that I'm going to go this route. So many colours though it'd be tough to choose

I mean, a few members here have the experience/ability to do it themselves.. which would be awesome since you're paying a big chunk of the $2500 for the labour. Unfortunately I'm not one of them lol and I don't think I want to learn by practicing with $700 rolls of wrap in my little garage hehe

edit/addition - yeah you don't polish vinyl, only wash with soap and water. however.. the guy showed me that they now 'do' have certain vinyls that have like a glossy/clearcoat layer on the top that you can wax and buff.

terrible example. i don't know if they redid it before importfest

as for waxing a wrap, no, its plastic. especially if its a matte wrap how would waxing a matte surface be good for it? its pretty much just as LMBmikeZ said, you only wash it. the problem with wraps (especially certain colours) is that if theres a chip (however unlikely) is that theres no way to fix it. its like plastidip when you gouge a hole in it, it stretches in the direction of the tear and although you can make it look ok, it'll get worse.

wraps really arent for anything long term, just a fun change of pace for cheap (cheap being relative)

that said, i've been playing around with it myself and its REALLY easy to do if you have 1-2 friends who have a day to spare. Roof and pillars are super easy because they're more or less flat. the front end and back bumper are the hardest ones. if youre familiar with 3d modelling, you pretty much have to "unwrap" the pieces and select the seams just like a texture. obviously removing body panels makes for better results and buying more than you need is a good idea for anyone trying it themselves. also the carbon fibre wrap tends to warp a bit if you stretch it over extreme shapes.

if i get around to it ill post up my experiments with it

I don't really know about the Vossen 370.. never saw it in person but it looked good in the video haha

when I went all the lights, mirrors and door panels were off all the cars they were working on so it looked 'pretty' thorough. they didn't take any bumpers off that I saw though, if that's really necessary. they do give you a year warranty though, if it bubbles or the edges come off.

and no the matte wrap can't be polished. however the guy showed me a 'glossy' vinyl with a clear coating on top that he said you can wax/polish if you wanted.

I dunno how you stress that it's REALLY easy to do with a couple friends though. unless your friend is like.. Elysium. lol if the average person just bought a roll of vinyl and simply called a couple friends over and they tried to wrap a car without prior experience.. I'm pretty sure it'd be a total disaster the flat areas are easy enough.. but those bumpers and curves are quite difficult (to me at least). there are heat guns and exacto knives involved! I can't just.. learn as I go along

unless.. YOU become my friend and I call YOU over after you've done your car then you can do it with/for me! that's the only way your claim would hold true cmon bro.. we live pretty close to each other and.. I'll give you $50!!!

after i do mine, i wouldnt mind helping at all. im actually asking around to make sure i know what im doing before i start on my own.
read: im doing my friends car first lolololol

but yes, the potential for screwing up is high. hence the buying more vinyl than you THINK you need :P

sidenote: i dunno if it was you but i saw a blue Z on yonge going south. there are a handful of blue Zs in tdot so i immediately thought it was you, the guy didnt see me though.

I tried wrappping just my mirror cap and that proved pretty tough to do to get the edges tight without wrinkles.

I can just imagine a whole car full of wrinkles and bubbles, man that would look bad.

In my case I determined that it was harder then I thought to wrap curved surfaces.
