Default Clunking Front End

Hey everybody

Sorry if this is a duplicate topic, I just noticed today in my 370 that pulling out of a parking spot, turning clockwise all the way, that my front end clunks fairly loudly, almost seems similar to the front wheels skidding straight. I've tried doing some research on the Internet for some information and only have found similar issues and no answers.. I haven't looked under the car yet, but its seems fairly important

Thanks for the help

Did the outside temps drop? Might be the tires. They act weird when its cold, they don't grip very well either, be careful. My 050's made a lot of clunking noise's when it got cold and turning sharp. I have S04's now, hasn't gotten cold enough here to know...

Perfectly normal. The phenomenon is known as Ackerman angles
kenchan likes this.

not sure what you mean by this...

The Ackerman angle I refer to is generally only felt during tight turning at low speed and exacerbated by cold tire rubber. If your issue is felt under different conditions it may be something else.

Also, just FYI, you should never turn the steering wheel all the way left or right for more than 10 sec. It is bad for the steering pump and can cause premature failure. I never hold more than 5 sec at max turn, which is the time interval recommended in the manual when flushing the power steering fluid.

If it bothers you that much, don't get a corvette...

I think it was in the high 30's or maybe 40 degrees when I first had it happen to me.

As long as it only happens when you have the wheel at an extreme, it's normal. Watch for tramlining, too.
