Nismo bumper brake duct install

I purchased a stillen brake cooling kit but did not want to cut holes In the nismo front bumper. I have a z speed undertray that I have mounted revotech naca ducts into. It has all worked out really well and looks neat.

That made me slightly horny...
And chance a pebble will be thrown up and go as far as to ding the rotor/get caught between the pad?

It is always a possibility that a stone could get in but not a huge risk. If you were concerned you could run mesh in the hose as a safety measure.

That's a chance you take with any kit. Even the factory set-ups on other vehicles.

Interesting set-up.

God-Speed 06-15-2013 07:35 AM

:tup:This set up looks like ones that I have seen on a few Zo6 Corvettes. Look good!!! Very Nice.

SATX_NISMO 06-15-2013 11:07 AM

Props...great work....!!! Looks pretty clean.

DLSTR 06-15-2013 11:59 AM

Thank you for posting this. Nicely done.

Sh0velMan 06-15-2013 12:40 PM

Love this setup, thank you for posting detailed pictures of the configuration.

Kingbaby 06-15-2013 01:19 PM

screams...I plan to put mines which is in a box in the bumper mouth lip area...

Rusty 06-15-2013 04:19 PM

Thinking that this is about perfect for the guys who went to FI and need brake ducts. Now you don't have to worry on how to run your duct hoses with the FI tubing in the front.

cv129 06-16-2013 08:39 AM

The least intrusive setup for the nismo guys, this should become a popular option.

Any issues with water being sucked into the brakes?

Rusty 06-20-2013 12:00 PM

I've driven in a downpour with my RC ducts. Never had a problem with water.

Chuck33079 06-20-2013 12:03 PM

At some point, I'm stealing this idea.

phohman 06-20-2013 12:33 PM

Yea, I had this idea, but haven't pulled the trigger

Nice job, did U check/know the temp. change?

martin82 06-20-2013 01:33 PM

good setup do you have a link to the naca ducts with brake ducting into it?

cv129 06-20-2013 03:26 PM

^ looks like these?

Crxckadome 06-20-2013 05:33 PM

ok not really a question for the nismo owners, but i'm curious about the non-nismo front bumper...it has these plastic caps that look like potential fog light holes or potential brake duct holes... Does anyone know of people using these as such?

This picture is from a company using them as custom short ram intake holes with plastic tubes that lead back into the engine bay...

I've done a trackday that rained most of the day. And drove it home afterwards. And yes, the hoses go to the inside of the rotor.

Interesting set-up.

I just got my set of carbon fiber ducts like Rusty and I am going to try and make a screen cover to avoid the possibility of injesting a rock (for lack of a better term) in the duct.

Once I figure out the the what and the how, I'll post some pictures.

GREAT idea with the undertray though.

Dave s 06-24-2013 11:53 PM

this is a link to the ducts I used, they were the only ones I could find with a rearward facing outlet, the normal style will not work due to space issues.

I have not measured temps but will once I get setup and head to the track.

DLo 06-28-2013 11:26 PM

Awesome work. I will be using this setup if I hang onto the nismo. Good stuff.

LukasC 07-20-2013 10:37 PM

This is a great idea! I couldn't figure out what to do with my amuse bumper but this might solve that! Does this location provide enough airflow to the brakes? I mean the ones in the grille are forcing the air to go into it as to these are almost just floating above the wind stream. Just a curious thought

Chuck33079 07-20-2013 10:40 PM

A NACA duct moves a lot of air.

I'm sure it does but isn't the air under the car a low pressure zone and the front grille is a high pressure zone. Won't that cause it to not work as well?

Chuck33079 07-21-2013 02:18 PM

There's less air under the car than right in front, but its still going to get a lot of airflow. It won't be as effective as cutting ducts into the bumper, but its a hell of a lot less invasive.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Now I have a problem I was looking online and there seems to be no suppliers for the exact NACA duct I need in the US like the one bought above^^

Basically I need to find a NACA duct that the outlet is low and not deep and has a 2" outlet for my stillen hose.

Post #22 has a link to plenty that would work. Just buy one of the 3" to 2" reducers. It's on the same page.

cv129 07-21-2013 06:53 PM

^ That was my post. Since then, I've compared OP's vs the ones in the link, not the same dimension. The ones I posted are taller, and I don't know if clearance will be an issue. The ones OP uses are way more expensive and not from US.

I did PM'd OP a while back to see, from his memory, if the ones I posted would fit. Have not gotten a response.

Chuck33079 07-21-2013 06:56 PM

Depending on where you put them, the height may not be an issue. I'm sure some other race parts site has one that fits better, but going from memory yours should work. I'd try it before I spent the coin on the OP's. Whats £45 each translate to in USD? About $80-85 each before shipping?

About 1 GBP to 1.53 USD, so about $69.

LukasC 07-21-2013 07:44 PM

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/category/Naca_Ducts2

Found it on a different site. Not the same dimensions as OP but u can get both with extensions for 60 plus shipping.

cv129 07-21-2013 08:00 PM

^same as the link in post #22. Using the small one, I'll need a little over 4 inches bertical clearance (vs the ones OP posted, much flatter design like you stated).

I may just order those and give it a try. Worst comes to worst I'll bite the bullet.

Hmm yeah I am about to pull the trigger on it but then I noticed this..

Attachment 73268

The bottom side of the amuse bumper is curved and you need 11" of area to mount to I'm not sure if it being curved will work or not.
