There are pro road racing teams as well as hundreds of track junkies on this site using the stock sport calipers and stock sized rotors so I really doubt in

There are pro road racing teams as well as hundreds of track junkies on this site using the stock sport calipers and stock sized rotors so I really doubt in your case, size matters. However I do think the pads and brake fluid are more to blame and I suggest upgrading these and see how your brakes work.
