Does size really make a difference

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some guidance. I have had problems with my front discs (rotors), particularly the front right. I have got a heavy right foot and do tend to make the most of the long and windy roads in my area. The net result is disc (rotor) punishment. Anyway, the dealership replaced my front discs (rotors) only about two months ago after I complained about a rubbing noise detectable at low speeds from the right front wheel area.

After the replacement all was fine, however now I'm getting the same noise again. I've had the pads checked and all seems okay. I wondering if I should forget the stock set-up (sports pack 356mm - 4 pots) and fit a more powerful set up (356mm slotted discs - 8 pots), or a larger set-up (385mm slotted discs with 8 pots), to be run with stock 19" rims

Any advice anyone?

Sounds to me like they did a crappy job installing parts or installed crap parts. I don't have a whole lot of experience with the factory parts maybe they are to blame?

There are pro road racing teams as well as hundreds of track junkies on this site using the stock sport calipers and stock sized rotors so I really doubt in your case, size matters. However I do think the pads and brake fluid are more to blame and I suggest upgrading these and see how your brakes work.

The stock package is great for braking, it's downsides are only really in heat dissipation and total weight. If you are warping rotors and not coming from a track then it could have simply been you parking it hot after a carving run which will cause them to cool unevenly. If you get the brakes hot drive around a little before stopping. Just a few minutes can make a couple hundred degree difference.

Replacing stock rotors is also not terribly expensive. You could replace the front OEM rotors once a year for ten years before you made up for just an initial upgrade price.

Rotors rarely warps, you got pad deposits on them

I hope size doesn't make a huge difference :ugh:

Go get some BrakeClean and spay them to clear out the junk.

If he's really putting heat into the rotors perhaps the Stillen front brake cooling duct kit would help.
