so all in all, what's the weight addition for this bar over stock? Was going to go with race seats and harnesses for weight savings, but if this weighs more, is it worth it?

Totally depends on what the seats and harnesses weigh and if you open up the interior paneling and remove the stock belts.

Weight reduction alone is a silly reason to do it though, IMO. A good harness weighs almost as much as the stock belt, for example. So you could get some light(er) "sport seats" that still allow you to use the stock belt, and like you said, use the lighter stock brace back there rather than a heavy duty steel harness bar.

For what it's worth, the bar is VERY light.

That said, IMO, seats and harnesses should be viewed as safety items, not simply weight savings. The bar is in the same boat.

Yeah probably.

Stock bar is very light.

3" diameter steel is not.

I would like to know what thickness/alloy they're using.

Same here since I can knock it out easy.

Based on this I'd just get a mild steel in cold roll since its stronger but make sure its DOM or ERW since are cars are heavy and its 3", not 2" which cages are.

The location of that stock horizontal bar (that this one replaces?) is a very poor one for mounting harnesses anyways. It puts too much rearward length on the belts between the seat-back and the mounting point, which allows them to stretch more than they're designed to in a wreck. It *is* definitely a step up from putting harnesses on the stock bar itself though, because that thing isn't nearly strong enough.

yeah my cage is 1.75" .120 wall DOM.

3" .120 wall DOM would be what I'd make this bar of if I were going to do it. Gonna be heavy tho.

Well someone weighed theirs and it was 8lbs. So if 0.12 is heavier, than robispec uses thinner wall.

3" .120 DOM is around 3.7 pounds per foot.

I'd guess they're more in the .08 or even .06 range. :shakes head:

Well it ant a roll bar, it's a chassis stiffener so even 0.6 should do its job.

So ill say it again, only do a seat belt off a roll cage only.

For chassis stiffening, you don't need anything more than the stock bar.

This is for harness mounting, which I think .06 is woefully inadequate for.

I'd be ok with something like this for autocross use, just not street or track.
